What a fantastic resource 😀 for any primary schools out there 🙌🏻

🌾 To mark National Farmers Day, the James Dyson Foundation’s Engineering Solutions: The Future of Farming resource offers a great way for design and technology teachers to bring agricultural engineering to life in the classroom.

Students can explore how design and engineering are used in farming, from growing and harvesting food to finding solutions to environmental challenges.

🚜 Designed for KS1 and KS2, the resource includes lesson plans, worksheets, posters and videos, with an additional resource box available to support growing crops in the classroom.

What a wonderful day yesterday, delivering one of our new workshop contexts for this year at In-Comm Training & Business Services 🙌

We’ve been working hard to align our new workshop contexts with the companies that support the funded programme, and yesterday we had the opportunity to try out our newly designed ‘Apprenticeship Taster Day’ challenge, linked to Brandauer

The challenge? 🛠️

Students were asked to design and manufacture a prototype tool capable of cutting or creating as many impressions as possible on a piece of tin foil.

And oh my goodness… the Year 11 students from really stepped up to the challenge! 👏

To put their achievement into context, they had just 2½ hours to design, manufacture, test and refine their solutions, all using traditional materials and processes.

The creativity, problem-solving and determination on display were fantastic. Seeing an idea move from a sketch to a working physical prototype in such a short space of time is exactly what makes Design & Technology so special.

This is why I love my job. ❤️

As D&T teachers, we give young people the skills, confidence and opportunities to turn ideas into reality. We really do help students make the impossible possible.

A brilliant effort from everyone involved! 👏🔧⚙️

At The STEM Workshop, our vision is to work in partnership with like-minded organisations so that, together, we can make an even greater impact on the lives and futures of young people. 🌟

Through our work with MAKE UK, we support the Technology Hub in creating opportunities for local schools and community groups to engage with the hub and explore the exciting careers available within ⚙️ and 🏭.

🚀 As part of this partnership, we provide a suite of Future Makers experiences designed to inspire young people and help them discover what it could mean to become a Future Maker.

🔧 Future Makers Workshops – delivered within your school or community setting and designed to engage and inspire large groups of young people.

💡 Future Makers Insight Days at the MAKE UK Technology Hub – giving young people who want to explore further the opportunity to experience the hub, meet people from industry and discover potential career pathways.

🚀 Fully Funded STEM Workshops at In-Comm Training

We’ve worked with In-Comm Training for a number of years, developing a full suite of STEM engagement opportunities designed to inform, inspire and empower young people to explore and careers across and .

Together, we offer a range of opportunities:

🔧 STEM Workshops in Schools
Engaging larger groups of learners through practical activities while introducing the exciting career opportunities available within engineering and manufacturing.

🏭 Apprenticeship Taster Days
For learners who are interested in apprenticeships and want to take the next step. Students visit the training centre, explore the facilities and find out what an engineering apprenticeship could look like.

🎯 Pre-Apprenticeship Programme
For young people who want to pursue an apprenticeship but would benefit from additional support to build their knowledge, skills and confidence before applying.

🤝 Industry Engagement Events
We’re also running a number of events throughout the year to help young people engage directly with industry and better understand the opportunities available to them.

🛠️ STEM Workshops for Primary Teachers

Looking to build your confidence in teaching Design and Technology?

Our practical STEM workshops are designed to inform, inspire and empower teachers—particularly those who may not be D&T specialists.

We can plan, resource and deliver workshops covering some of the more challenging areas of the curriculum, including:

⚙️ Mechanical Systems
🔌 Electrical Systems
🤖 Control Technology
💻 CAD

During each session, learners create a wealth of practical examples. We also leave you with the planning, resources and know-how you need to deliver the activities yourself in the future.

Our goal is not simply to deliver a great workshop—it is to sustain its impact.

Today is our funded Primary Teacher Training Day, supported by the Royal Academy of Engineering!

We’ve delivered workshops for the for the past four years, and this year we were asked to create a dedicated training day—along with bespoke classroom kits—to help key primary schools embed engineering across their curriculum. 🏫🛠️

The schools joining us today are in for a treat! 🌟 Each school will receive a tailored kit of resources, enabling teachers to put their learning into practice as soon as they return to the classroom. 📦✏️

Throughout the day, we’ll model how these kits can be used to teach:

⚙️ Mechanisms
🔧 Mechanical systems
💡 Electrical systems
🏗️ Structures

Drawing inspiration from our local context, teachers will design and make exciting products suitable for each primary key stage. ✂️📐

What a superb first day back at In-Comm Training & Business Services, running the stemracinghq launch day for a fantastic group of RAF Cadets! 😀

Students from a range of schools across had the opportunity to , , and their very own F1 car 🏎️

It was a brilliant hands-on way for the students to develop their understanding of the skills involved in engineering and manufacturing, while discovering the wide range of roles and career opportunities available across the sectors.

This is just one of the workshops we provide as part of the In-Comm Training & Business Services through the fully funded provision.

A great day of learning, teamwork, problem-solving and, of course, a bit of healthy competition on the racetrack! 🏁
