Happy new year everyone!
SAFETY ANNOUNCEMENT (please read)
Over the festivities i had a call out to a fuseboard fire. The distribution board was an old re-wirable fuseboard which is not upto current standards.
On inspection of the property i found loose connections all over the house at 80% of the sockets and switches on the wall.
Increased resistance: A loose connection makes it harder for electricity to pass through. This resistance generates heat, sometimes enough to ignite surrounding materials.
Overheating of components: Loose terminals can cause wires, sockets, and switches to overheat over time, damaging insulation and increasing fire risk.
Hidden danger: These faults often occur behind walls or inside consumer units, so the heat builds up unnoticed until ignition.
In short, loose or broken connections turn electrical energy into heat in uncontrolled ways, making them one of the most common causes of electrical fires in homes.
So if you have a board that looks like any of the ones bellow or notice sockets or switches in your property are warm to the touch, please get intouch and we can have your property inspected and tested to make sure you have a safe home for the year ahead.
