Our team recently completed carriageway improvement works at this private residential development in Foundry Close, Hook, Hampshire.

The project involved planing the existing carriageway before resurfacing it with a 40mm layer of new asphalt. A heritage surface dressing was then applied to create a traditional decorative finish that complements the character of the surrounding area.

The result is a significant transformation, providing residents with a smart, durable and long-lasting surface that enhances both the appearance and performance of the development.

Another residential improvement scheme has been successfully completed this week for Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council.

The works included the construction of a new open-textured, permeable macadam parking area, complete with new PCC kerbs and timber knee-rail fencing. New pedestrian dropped kerbs were also installed to provide safer and more accessible connections for local residents.

This practical improvement enhances parking provision and accessibility within the local community.

Another project successfully completed by the Rocon Contractors Ltd at Basingstoke College of Technology (BCOT).

The works included planing and resurfacing defective macadam areas across the site, followed by the installation of new thermoplastic line markings throughout the college grounds.

The improvements have enhanced the overall appearance of the site while providing clearer parking bays, pedestrian areas, traffic routes and road markings. This will help create a safer, more organised environment for students, staff and visitors.

A big thank you to Jordan, Richard, and Mark for arranging and supervising the works throughout, ensuring everything was carefully coordinated and delivered successfully.

Brighton Hill Community School, Basingstoke

Another successful summer holiday project completed by the Rocon team, this time at Brighton Hill Community School in Basingstoke.

Working within the tight school holiday programme, our team completed a varied package of improvement and maintenance works, with the project successfully delivered on programme and ready for the start of the new school term.

The works included:

🔹 Rebuilding existing steps, using conservation kerbs to form the risers and buff-coloured textured paving slabs for the treads, finished with yellow anti-slip markings to the tread edges.

🔹 Painting and refurbishment works to existing handrails and canopy columns, helping to refresh and improve the surrounding areas.

🔹 Macadam surfacing and drainage improvements, including the installation of new ACO channels and an associated soakaway.

🔹 Replacement Perspex panels to the existing cycle shelter.

A great effort from Richard, Gary, Clive, Nathan, John, Julian, Harry, and Tom who kept the works moving and ensured the project was completed to programme and ready for pupils and staff returning after the summer break.

Another great example of the varied works undertaken by Rocon Contractors Ltd across Hampshire’s schools and public-sector sites.

Kings Furlong Infant School, Basingstoke – Improvements to External Play Area

Over the school summer holidays, we completed a programme of improvements to the external play areas at Kings Furlong Infant School, Basingstoke, creating a safer, more accessible and enjoyable outdoor environment for pupils.

The works included:

🔹 Replacement of the existing external steps and handrails
🔹 Relocation and refurbishment of the existing climbing wall, including new ropes and anti-slip treatment
🔹 Installation of new green rubber-bonded all-weather surfacing
🔹 New bowtop fencing and pedestrian gates to improve separation and security
🔹 Installation of approximately 120m of 2m-high privacy mesh fencing with timber slats
🔹 Installation of a new automated 3m-wide pedestrian entrance gate
🔹 Construction of a new 3m-wide pedestrian footpath
🔹 Removal of existing macadam and installation of new wetpour all-weather surfacing beneath the existing canopy
🔹 Removal of an existing 8ft x 6ft steel container
🔹 Removal of existing redundant concrete bases
🔹 Installation of new artificial turf
🔹 Improvements to the existing planters
🔹 Installation of a new scooter rack

Completing the works during the school summer holidays allowed us to undertake the improvements with minimal disruption to the school and have the upgraded areas ready for the children returning for the new school year.

Another great project delivered by Richard, John, Julian, Harry, Gary, Geoff, and Danny helping to provide a safer, more practical and enjoyable outdoor space for the children to use and enjoy.

PROJECT COMPLETE | SANDY LANE, CHURCH CROOKHAM, FLEET

The Rocon team has completed the Sandy Lane Zebra Crossing Scheme in Church Crookham, Fleet, for Hampshire County Council under the Gen5-1 Framework.

The project replaced the existing uncontrolled crossing with a new zebra crossing on a raised table, improving pedestrian safety and accessibility while enhancing the surrounding highway layout.

The works included:

• Construction of a new raised zebra crossing
• Alterations to the Oakwood bellmouth junction
• Carriageway resurfacing and new road markings
• Installation of traffic signs and highway furniture
• Vegetation clearance to improve visibility
• Drainage improvements and associated highway works

Delivered during the school summer holidays, the scheme required careful planning and coordination to maintain safe working conditions and minimise disruption for local residents and road users.

PROJECT COMPLETE | SHERBORNE ROAD, BASINGSTOKE

The Rocon team has successfully completed a new pedestrian crossing on Sherborne Road, Basingstoke, together with a range of associated highway improvements.

Delivered under the Hampshire County Council Gen5-1 Framework for Hampshire County Council, the project was completed during the school summer holiday period, with the road fully closed to traffic throughout the works.

The scheme included:

✅ Construction of a new pedestrian crossing and associated footway
✅ Drainage and carriageway improvements
✅ New road markings and highway signage
✅ Street-lighting installation
✅ Traffic-signal installation
✅ Utility diversion works
✅ LV power-supply installation

The project required close coordination with several specialist contractors working alongside our package, as well as careful planning to ensure all elements were delivered safely, efficiently and to a high standard.

The completed scheme provides a safer and more accessible route for pedestrians while improving the surrounding highway infrastructure.

Another fantastic project recently completed by the Rocon team, this time in the heart of Petersfield, surrounding one of the town’s most recognisable historic landmarks: the Grade I listed statue of King William III in The Square.

Working alongside East Hampshire District Council, our team carefully restored and improved the area around the monument while preserving the character of this important heritage setting.

The works included:

• Carefully lifting and relaying the existing natural stone paving
• Lifting, realigning and reinstalling the existing granite kerbstones
• Replacing damaged ACO channels and installing new sections, including lifting and relaying the surrounding paving to accommodate revised levels
• Repointing the paving and completing the finishing works throughout

Working around such a significant historic structure required particular care, precision and attention to detail. The completed improvements complement the existing surroundings while providing a durable, high-quality finish suitable for this busy town-centre location.

A new life-size bronze sculpture of Queen Elizabeth II has been unveiled in the north churchyard of Romsey Abbey in Hampshire. The artwork is a permanent tribute to the late Queen and her long-standing connections to Romsey and the wider Test Valley area.

Created by sculptor Amy Goodman, the sculpture depicts the young Queen at a pivotal moment in her life, as she began a lifetime dedicated to public service.

A special feature of the artwork is the involvement of the local community in its creation. Residents and schoolchildren shared memories, ideas and artwork that helped shape the final design.

The sculpture is the second of two works commissioned by Test Valley Borough Council to honour Queen Elizabeth II. The first stands in Andover and was unveiled in 2024, while the new Romsey sculpture completes the tribute.

The choice of Romsey is particularly significant, as the Queen had strong connections to the area, including through Broadlands and the Mountbatten family.
