๐ฑ IS YOUR LAWN LOOKING BROWN AND PATCHY AFTER THE HOT WEATHER? โ๏ธ
Donโt panic โ in many cases, your lawn isnโt dead!
During prolonged hot and dry weather, grass can go dormant to protect itself. This is why lawns can turn brown, dry and straw-like when there has been very little rainfall.
๐ง๏ธ The good news? Once we start getting regular rainfall and cooler temperatures, many lawns will naturally begin to recover.
You may start to see new green growth within 10โ14 days, although a lawn that has been under stress for a long period can take several weeks to fully recover.
๐ฟ How to help your lawn recover
โ๏ธ Give it a good, deep watering rather than little amounts every day
โ๏ธ Avoid heavy use while the grass is stressed
โ๏ธ Donโt cut it too short
โ๏ธ Once growth starts again, gradually return to your normal mowing routine
โ๏ธ If you have completely bare patches, these may need reseeding
September is also an excellent time to repair and reseed lawns. The temperatures are generally cooler, while the soil can still be warm enough for grass seed to establish.
If your lawn has suffered through the summer and youโre not sure whether it will recover, J Burgess Landscapes can take a look and advise you on the best way forward.
