Progress at St Margaret’s Church, Horsforth

We’re pleased to share an update from St Margaret's Church Horsforth where the conservation works continue.

Over the past year, significant progress has been made. The existing floor has now been removed and a new beam-and-block floor structure supported on steelwork has been installed throughout the chancel, organ chamber and vestry.

Insulation is now in place, ready for the installation of underfloor heating — helping to make this much-loved historic church warmer, more comfortable and more energy efficient.

As ecclesiastical architects, our team is delighted to be involved in this important conservation project, working alongside Pinnacle Conservation Ltd to carefully balance essential building works with the preservation of St Margaret’s historic fabric.

It’s encouraging to see the works moving forward and the long-term benefits for St Margaret’s beginning to take shape.

Heritage Open Days 2026

We're delighted that some of our projects will be taking part in Heritage Open Days this September.

It's always wonderful to see these buildings open to the public, giving people the chance to explore their history, appreciate their architecture and experience spaces that aren't always accessible.

We're proud to have played a part in helping to conserve and adapt these special places, and we hope you'll enjoy visiting them if you're taking part in Heritage Open Days.

A huge congratulations to our Director and Practice Secretary, Sally Beeden, who achieved an amazing 3rd place at the 2026 Trailblazers Championships at Addington Equestrian this weekend with her horse Alexanderthegreat.

A fantastic achievement - but there’s no time to rest! It’s straight on to the RoR National Championships at Aintree next week to do it all again!

We know... it was Saturday.

But one day never seems quite enough to celebrate Yorkshire, so we're carrying on today.

As architects based in Tadcaster, we're fortunate to work with some of the county’s finest buildings and places. While our architectural projects take us across the North of England, Yorkshire will always be home.

St Peter’s Church, Morley Community Centre – officially open!

It's wonderful to see the newly renovated church hall at St Peter's Morley officially open as a community centre.

This project has been about so much more than restoring a building—it's about creating a welcoming space where the community can come together for years to come.

From the beautifully carved local stonework to the carefully restored historic fabric, every detail has been designed to celebrate the church's heritage while giving the hall a new lease of life.

It has been a pleasure to work alongside Whitaker & Leach as the main contractor on this project.

We can't wait to see the hall filled with community events, activities, celebrations, and everyday moments that make places like St Peter's so special.

Congratulations to everyone involved—we're proud to have played a part in this exciting new chapter.

Supporting Local Students

Last week, we were delighted to welcome a work experience student from Tadcaster Grammar School to our architectural practice.

As a local practice, we're committed to supporting students by offering meaningful work experience and the opportunity to explore a career in architecture.

During the week, they gained an insight into the design process, worked alongside our team, and discovered how ideas develop into the buildings and spaces that shape our communities.

It was great to see their enthusiasm and curiosity throughout the week, and we hope the experience has provided some inspiration for the future.

We're always pleased to support the next generation of architects, designers and built environment professionals, and we wish them every success in whatever comes next.

Keeping it local!

We're pleased to see our Pearce Bottomley Architects sign in place alongside the scoreboard at Church Fenton Cricket Club.

A fantastic day with the team at York Handmade Brick Company Ltd!

Last Thursday, our team here at PBA enjoyed a visit to York Handmade Brick Co Ltd where we took part in an insightful CPD session before touring the factory to see how their handmade bricks are made. It was a great opportunity to learn more about the manufacturing process and the craftsmanship behind every brick.

One of the highlights was getting hands-on and having a go at making our own bricks – not as easy as it looks! It was a brilliant experience and a great way to understand the skill involved in traditional brickmaking. We can't wait to see how our individual handmade bricks turn out!

A big thank you to everyone at York Handmade Brick Company for looking after us, sharing your knowledge, and a delicious lunch. We all had a brilliant day!

Preserving our historic churches is about more than repairing old buildings – it's about protecting the craftsmanship and character that make them so special.

We're proud to have been involved in the chancel repair works at St Michael's Church, Crambe, providing services to help ensure this important heritage building can be enjoyed for future generations.

The chancel had previously been pointed with a mixture of mortars including some cementitious which were trapping moisture and causing damage to the historic walls.

The entire chancel was repointed internally with a lime mortar to prevent further deterioration of the stone. Externally, localised repairs and redecoration were carried out to the window ferramenta, door and rainwater goods. To improve internal ventilation, we also integrated discrete stainless steel mesh quarries into the chancel windows.

Projects like this demonstrate the value of specialist historic building conservation, combining traditional materials with skilled craftsmanship to safeguard our architectural heritage.

Thank you to Pinnacle Conservation Ltd who carried out the works as the main contractor.
