A look behind the hoardings at Burgoyne House, where we're creating a new, state-of-the-art dental medical facility.

The work includes extensive refurbishment to a 1930s building. Project Manager Matthew walks us through the progress so far.

For this complicated cut and carve project, we're balancing maintaining as much of the building's character as possible - including like-for-like feature windows - whilst making it fit for modern use.

This is just one of the projects we're working on for Serco and the MOD here.

Introducing Tour de Beard, an inter-office cycling challenge! 🚵

Our colleagues are swapping hard hats for cycle helmets and taking on an epic distance to fundraise for Youth Challenge Oxfordshire this September.

19 riders will be cycling 285km between Beard offices - plus others joining for individual legs or completing the distance on static bikes in our offices 💪

We'd be very grateful for any support ➡️ https://bit.ly/beard-YoCo

A whole new street is taking shape in Oxford! 🏗️

At Pusey Lane, we’re creating new Passivhaus student accommodation for St John’s College.

Efficient energy performance is designed into every junction, joint and opening of a Passivhaus structure.

The building envelope must work as one continuous thermal layer, keeping warmth in, draughts out and energy demand exceptionally low.

To achieve this, Project Manager Nick Bell explains how our team has:

🔷 Installed two layers of insulation with staggered joints
🔷 Fitted triple-glazed, Passivhaus-certified windows from Denmark
🔷 Applied Passive Purple paint to seal the permeable blockwork
🔷 Installed Nilan mechanical ventilation and heat recovery units

Much of this work will be hidden once the building is complete, but its benefits will be felt by generations of students. Well done team!

Restoring an iconic slice of history 🏊

This year Beard completed a multi-million pound project at Hilsea Lido, one of Portsmouth’s most treasured landmarks.

The team sensitively renovated and refitted the hundred-year-old pool floor and filtration system. They also built a new plant room using waterproof concrete, after leaking sea water damaged the original structure.

Gareth Walters, senior site manager, shared his pride in creating a place that will be enjoyed by generations to come:

"On a daily basis I speak to someone and they have a story of the old lido, with themselves, their parents and their grandparents.

"Considering the old lido was built in 1935, what we've produced now will be here for another hundred years."

Huge thanks to everyone involved in bringing the lido back to life, including Portsmouth City Council and Mace.

We love to see a glowing review of our work 🙌💙

That's why we were delighted to receive this feedback from Amy Peart, headteacher of Hythe Community Primary School.

Our team constructed a new Special Educational Needs (SEN) block for pupils, delivering £580k in social and local economic value in the process.

The measures put in place to ensure the smooth running of the school during the build were highlighted by Amy:

"What has impressed me most is how little disruption there has been. That simply doesn't happen by chance - it is the result of excellent planning, outstanding communication and a team that genuinely cared about getting it right."

"It will be nice to look back on this project...we've given something back to the community, and the NHS as a whole."

Project Manager Ian Johnson walks us through Beard's extension project at Southampton General Hospital.

New facilities currently being built within the Urgent Treatment Centre include specialist treatment, consulting and X-ray rooms.

Working within a hospital presents a unique set of challenges.

With the Children's Emergency Department and a cancer outpatient clinic above the construction site, the team has been taking steps to avoid any disruptions for staff and patients.

The build has also been unfolding within a tight space, but Ian and the team have found the NHS permit-to-work system to be a really helpful tool for managing high-risk activities on site.

"We're working on five wings - it's all about sequence!"

Andy Spence, contracts manager at Beard, talks through the logistics of our £31 million project at Kitchener Hall.

Commissioned by Serco, it involves the demolition, strip-out and refurbishment of existing living accommodation on a Ministry of Defence site to form 190 single living units.

Teams are removing asbestos panelling, installing air source heat pumps, and fitting 820 new triple-glazed windows.

To manage the complexity of this building-wide structural refit, Beard is employing up to twelve managers - each with clear ownership of different sections.

We can't wait to see the next stage of this exciting project!
