Last night WeWeed hosted a very interesting Zoom talk by Louise of Shropshire Garden Irrigation , strangely enough on systems!! 🫗

It has got me thinking as its more than I thought! Louise said at the start, it's NOT hoses, its about;

- / /
- type/ diameter/ length
- rainfall/ temperature/ humidity
- soil or medium type/ condition
- plant /condition/ age/ time in growing medium
- water type
- backflow contaminating public supplies!

It's got me thinking especially with , more hot dry summers, empty water buts, water use elsewhere in the county

Plus another very positive step we didn't discuss but I assume irrigation systems
- reduces by increasing infiltration extending peak
- reduces by slowing down surface run off soil structure, topsoil & sediments
- reduces such as nutrients, pathogens, pesticides, metals, salts antibiotics
- reduces in ponds & sea
- improves water quality!

With this prolonged weather, like us, some plants are thriving whilst others are really not!

Late flowering plants such as , , and love the conditions but conversely cooler moisture lovers such as , and our are looking really , jaded, or even dead.

However, keep calm and don't , resist the urge to do anything too drastic - (unless you really want to completely replace the apparent casualties) but even then, wait until the weather breaks and give plants time to recover before taking , or to them.

and plants MAY still be alive, even the crispy brown specimens! They have gone into mode, losing leaves and shutting down to reduce .

Be patient - don't prune heavily as wounds will leak liquid, don't feed heavily as again the salts in the feed will draw water away from their core systems. Move into shady sheltered areas if you can.

If you are lucky enough not to live in an areas with a and certain plants are to you, water plants in the ground well and long every few days to promote deep drought-resistant roots. Watering small amounts regularly just fosters shallow vulnerable roots . For pot plants, every few days, submerge in a tub of water until the bubbling stops.

plants with woodchip, stones, bark, compost, leaves and even grass clippings can reduce water loss from wind and evaporation as well as reduces w**ds and insulated roots from hot and cold!

Lawns will also recover bound back once the rain comes and it becomes cooler but try to avoid walking too much on them.

Give me a call if you want to -think your to cope with changing weather due to

It's so satisfying sorting out my ! They are amazing gorgeous tactile bundles of that come in a (small) variety of blubs shapes and colours!

This is good test for your grey matter! 🧠 Can you name the plant from the bulb? Extra clues with number 3.

I am separating the ( or baby 👶 bulbs💡 ) and seeds so I can keep a closer eye on them. I will plant them in the autumn so bring them on to fatten up their reserves so they will flower in a few years. The same with any which will take longer to flower but again, satisfying and extra plants so its a win, win!
