🔥 BONFIRE NIGHT - FREE FIREWOOD AVAILABLE! 🔥

Are there any local community bonfire events looking for additional firewood this year?

Here at The Wild Garden Company, we have approximately 20 cubic metres of mixed timber, including pallets, timber offcuts and wooden slab crates, that we’d love to put towards a local community bonfire.

📍 Based in Methwold, Norfolk

We’d much rather see the wood put to good use at a local community event!

If you know of any local bonfire events that could benefit, please drop a contact number or relevant contact details in the comments below.

A weekend well spent in Yorkshire! 🌱

A lovely weekend away staying at Yurtshire, enjoying a bit of peace and quiet, exploring the local countryside and stopping off at some fantastic traditional Yorkshire pubs for good food and a drink or two.

One of the highlights was visiting Brimham Rocks, exploring the incredible natural rock formations and taking in the stunning views across the Yorkshire countryside.

Fresh air, beautiful scenery and a chance to switch off from the usual routine. Couldn’t ask for much more! 🍂

Why doing it properly the first time matters.

We’ve recently started work on this garden, and unfortunately much of what was already here has had to be completely removed and started again.

Once we began taking everything up, it became clear that there was very little substantial hardcore beneath the existing landscaping. The porcelain paving had been laid onto sand, while the artificial lawn was poorly supported underneath, leaving it noticeably soft and squishy underfoot.

Perhaps the biggest issue was the retaining section, where porcelain had been fixed directly onto a timber sleeper wall. Timber naturally moves, expands and deteriorates over time, making it unsuitable as a permanent structure for this type of porcelain finish.

We’ve now stripped the garden back, excavated the area properly and started rebuilding it from the ground up, including approximately six inches of properly compacted hardcore, new concrete footings and blockwork, along with galvanised steel ACO drainage throughout.

The garden will eventually be finished with a combination of Foras sandstone and porcelain, but the important work at the moment is everything that will ultimately be hidden underneath it.

Unfortunately, this customer is now effectively paying twice for much of the same garden.

Good landscaping isn’t just about how something looks when it’s first finished. The preparation and construction underneath are what determine how it performs in the years that follow.

Doing it properly the first time nearly always works out cheaper than doing it twice.

A recently completed garden transformation 🌱

We’ve really enjoyed seeing this project come together. Starting with what was essentially a blank mud patch, we’ve created the garden from the ground up, with virtually everything you see here constructed by The Wild Garden Company, aside from the shed and greenhouse.

We carried out all of the groundworks and created the entire layout, including the paved and gravel areas, raised timber beds, large curved planting area and the smaller seating space tucked into the corner.

One of the most important parts of this project was incorporating elements that reflected the character of the client’s previous home, an older period property.

Reclaimed bricks were used to create the herringbone seating area, while reclaimed clay pantiles were incorporated as edging throughout the planting areas. These materials bring age and character into the new garden while retaining a subtle connection to the client’s previous home.

Combined with the natural timber, gravel, paving and extensive planting areas, the result is a garden that already feels established rather than completely new.

The planting is still a work in progress, with the customer continuing to add to the borders themselves. We’ll be returning once the garden has been fully planted and had some time to establish, so there will be plenty more photos to come.

A huge transformation from where we started, with some really personal details incorporated throughout.

And just like that, summer’s over…🌱

It’s been a busy few months for us at The Wild Garden Company, with plenty of great projects completed and some really exciting ones still underway.

Autumn brings a change of pace, but certainly not a stop to the landscaping. We’ve got plenty lined up over the coming months and we’re looking forward to sharing some of the projects as they come together.

If you’re thinking about making changes to your garden ready for next year, feel free to get in touch.

A fresh new look for this garden 🌱

We’ve recently completed the installation of a newly laid lawn, finished with Corten steel edging to create a clean, flowing border around the existing planting.

The Corten steel works particularly well in this setting, following the natural curves of the garden while providing a crisp separation between the lawn and borders. As the steel continues to weather, it will develop an even richer finish and blend beautifully with the surrounding planting and existing stonework.

A simple transformation, but one that has made a huge difference to the overall finish of the garden.

New Project Underway in Swaffham! 🌱

Today marks the start of another full garden transformation in swaffham, and we’re looking forward to bringing this one to life over the coming weeks.

Before any work begins, we always take the time to protect our customers’ property. As with every project, the driveway has been fully sheeted and boarded to protect it from machinery and materials, helping to keep everything clean and damage-free throughout the build. It’s all part of the high standards we pride ourselves on at The Wild Garden Company.

Keep an eye on our page for regular progress updates as this project develops.

Also, keep an eye out for photos of our previous full wrap-around garden transformation, where we’re just putting the finishing touches in place with the installation of a beautiful Foras Stone water feature and fresh turf. We can’t wait to share the completed project with you, it’s stunning.
