⚡ A few simple electrical safety checks for your home

It’s easy to overlook sockets, switches and wiring when everything seems to be working—but small warning signs deserve attention.

🏠 Look out for:
• Cracked or loose sockets and switches
• Scorch marks, burning smells or unusual buzzing
• Damaged cables or exposed wires
• Breakers or RCDs that repeatedly trip

🔌 Avoid overloading sockets or plugging extension leads into other extension leads.

✅ Test your RCD using its “T” or “Test” button, following the instructions on your consumer unit. If it doesn’t trip, contact an electrician.

⚠️ Never ignore a burning smell or scorching. Stop using the affected equipment and arrange for it to be checked.

An Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR) checks the condition of your fixed wiring, sockets, switches and consumer unit, helping identify faults that aren’t visible day to day.
