Testing this was fun, it’s amazing how electricians manage to create such a mess and are happy to put homeowners in danger

It would take longer to do it terribly than to do it nice, neat and safe

Pictures show how it was vs an example of how it should look on another property

Many issues were located on this property which lead to an unsatisfactory report

Many being the wrong size protective devices being installed which meant if the circuit was overloaded the cable would melt before the overload device would trip
7 MCBs in total were incorrect

There were also loose connections found the lives and earths of a socket circuit which pose potential shock and fire risk

With many more issues I’ll not list here 18 to be exact

But just goes to show the importance of having your home regularly tested and inspected

It’s easy to put off but putting it off could cost you your home, or even worse yours or your family’s life

If you would like more information on having your whole electrics checked in your home or would like a quote just drop me a message I’d be happy to help

There's no better time than now

An Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR) provides an official assessment of your home’s fixed wiring, consumer unit (fuse box), sockets, and light fittings.

While mandatory for private landlords every 5 years, it is strongly recommended for all homeowners every 10 years.

Life Safety & Fire Prevention Detects hidden hazards: Identifies decaying insulation, loose connections, overloaded circuits, and missing earthing hidden behind walls before they cause electrical fires or electrocution.

Exposes unsafe DIY: Highlights non-compliant or dangerous electrical work carried out by previous owners.

Financial & Insurance Security Validates insurance claims: Many property insurance providers require proof that electrical systems are safely maintained. A valid report prevents insurers from denying claims related to electrical fires.

Prevents costly emergency repairs: Catching minor component degradation early allows you to budget for planned repairs rather than paying for urgent, expensive breakdowns.

Property Value & Transaction Benefits Speeds up property sales: Providing a clear EICR to prospective buyers builds trust, removes negotiation roadblocks, and demonstrates responsible property care.

Meets legal landlord mandates: Ensures private landlords stay compliant with rental safety regulations, avoiding substantial local authority fines.

Compatibility with Modern Technology Verifies capacity for major upgrades: Assesses whether your current system can safely handle high-demand modern technology, such as EV home chargers, heat pumps, solar panels, or induction hobs, without risk of tripping or overheating.

EICR observation codes classify the severity and urgency of electrical issues found during an inspection.

A report containing any C1, C2, or FI code results in an overall Unsatisfactory grade.

There's nothing worse than waiting in for unreliable no show tradesmen

You’re either taking the day off work, racing home in the traffic, getting your elderly parents to head over to your house to meet them

Only for them not to turn up

These days if you're lucky you might get a message an hour after they are supposed to arrive saying sorry were not going to make it but mostly you will get nothing at all

It's not good enough, how has our nation turned into what we experience today

I get it in certain trades you can have issues an unexpected water leak, a fault you didn't foresee or plan on happening, a crash creating endless traffic, were all human after all

But non of that excuses the lack of common courtesy and respect

We all know in advance if we're going to be late simply stop for a moment and send a 2 second message

Stop people standing window watching, not knowing if they can go out or cra k on with their daily routine

My biggest value in my business is reliability, I always turn up, I always communicate, ill always do what I said I'm going to do

It requires very simple scheduling

I won't take on more than I can chew,

I won't book more jobs in hoping to make it because I'm greedy for money

I won't cancel a job already in the calendar because a better job came along

I'll never compete in price only on service

First come first serve

If you trust me, I'll trust you

Forget waiting in wondering

Forget wasting your holidays at work

Forget worrying if I'm going to turn up

Simply choose The electrician for you electrical needs and save your time and hard earned money

Thinking about swapping out that old light fitting yourself this weekend? Before you grab the screwdriver, hold on for a second! 💡⚡

While changing a light fitting seems like a quick 20-minute DIY project, electrical work can quickly turn into a costly—and dangerous—headache.
Here is why you should leave light fittings to a qualified pro:

⚠️ 1. Hidden Wiring Surprises
Older homes are full of electrical mysteries. From loop-in wiring systems and missing earth wires to outdated color-coded cables, one wrong connection can leave your light permanently live or trip the entire floor’s circuit.

🔥 2. High Risk of Fire & Shocks
Loose connections create arcing, which generates intense heat behind your ceiling rose. Faulty wiring is one of the leading causes of house fires and severe electrical shocks. If the fitting has a metal base and isn't earthed properly, touching the light switch could energize the whole fixture.

📜 3. Home Insurance Headaches
Did you know that DIY electrical mistakes can void your home insurance? If an uncertified electrical tweak leads to a fire or damage, your insurer may refuse to payout.

🏋️ 4. Physical & Structural Hazards
Heavy chandeliers, flush mounts, or modern drop lights need proper structural support. Fastening a heavy fixture into plain plasterboard without hitting a joist or using the correct anchors means it could crash down when you least expect it.

The Bottom Line: Saving a few pounds on a quick DIY fix isn't worth risking your safety, your home, or your peace of mind. Call a registered electrician, get it done right, and sit back safely under your new lights! 🛠️🔌

Buying a new house or haven't checked your home's wiring in over 10 years? 🏠⚡

Electrics degrade over time, and hidden wiring faults are one of the leading causes of domestic electrical fires. A standard home survey rarely tests the electrical installation in depth.

An EICR (Electrical Installation Condition Report) gives you a complete, transparent health check of your property's electrical system before expensive surprises turn into emergency repairs.

We check:
🔹 Consumer units & circuit breakers
🔹 Socket outlets & light fittings
🔹 Earth bonding & cable integrity

Careful you don’t fall into the trap

Make sure you know exactly what you are being quoted for and the extent of the electrical test

A 100% fixed wiring and 20%+ accessories check is going to be more than

This should take around 3-4hours

A very basic sampling test of 20% I’ve seen it before when attending properties in the past which take around 1hour
