Northwards Ltd Manson Cup result.

Ness Utd hosted Scalloway at Boddam in the Quarter Final of the Manson Cup the game started as a pretty even affair with both sides trying to get to grips with all that the late Shetland Spring could throw at them, it was the home side who threatened first as Mark Woodworth fizzed a ball across the box through the corridor of uncertainty that Keepers and Centre backs both fear to tread in for Reece Black to meet at the far post but it just had a bit too much on it and the wing wizard couldn’t get on the end of it.

Scalloway collected themselves after this let off and pushed forward with Ally Young trying to find the feet of Hayden Jamieson but the pass was well cut out by Dylan Leishman. Ness opened the scoring after a well worked move as Ness’s pocket Dynamo Reece Black picked up a cross field ball from Mark Woodworth on the right and drove for the byline after leaving the Scalloway fullback in his wake, he drove the ball across the box where Tomas Smith just missed it at the far post but Woodworth was there to pick it up at the edge of the box and he danced past a desperate Scalloway challenge to rifle the ball home at Rory Henderson’s near post.

Ness went into the halftime break 1-0 up and came out of the blocks early in the second half as they went 2-0 up through a well taken Callum Morrison goal, as he burst into the box to arrive on the end of a well hit cross from Mark Woodworth on the right wing.

The game settled into a scrappy affair as both sides sought the next goal Ness to finish it off as a contest and Scalloway to give themselves a chance of hauling level before full time, it was Scalloway who came closest to executing the plan as Robbie MacDougall hit an early shot from the edge of the box that saw Henry Oldbury pull off a great save to keep the score at 2-0. The Village people did get themselves back in to the game though after confusion in the Ness box saw Jonah Riddell flick the ball on to Connor Umphray to coolly slot past the keeper to make it 2-1 just three minutes later on, on the hour mark. The game had chances at both ends but before you could say the words Shetland Times Plagiarism the match referee blew the whistle for full time.

Best on the night for Ness were Dylan Lieshman who kept Hayden Jamieson very quiet over the 90 minutes and Mark Woodworth with his goal and assist. For Scalloway Dean Guthrie and Robbie MacDougall shone brightest in a match well officiated by Dominic Mann. Ness will face Whalsay at Boddam on the 25th of May in the Semi-Final after the Islanders beat Celtic in their quarter final tie.

Ness United 3 - 2 Whitedale

Ness got back to winning ways with an entertaining 3-2 win over Whitedale in their first home game of the season at Boddam.

Lewis Black opened the scoring for Ness in the 42nd Minute and Mark Woodworth got the home sides second in the 48th minute to put them two ahead, Whitedale went to the bench bringing on Greg Tulloch and Liam Graham and it seemed the change was to swing the match Whitedale’s way as they scored through Tulloch in the 54th minute and levelled through Bobby Scott in the 69th but it was all to no avail as Ness Utd’s Joe Casey popped up in the 75th minute to send the home support wild with Ness’s third and the winner.
