"Road Closed"!!!!!

with all the tech that’s about and the enormous amount of roads works being carried out, you'd think it could be a little more informative!!

WHERE is it Closed??,
is it THIS road or a SIDE road??,
can I get as far up to MINE (or clients) property??
and,
if you MUST divert, for 'all the saints in heaven' GIVE US A CLUE??

surely something like ROAD CLOSED "100yds ahead", or "AT Anytown Ave" or perhaps nowadays even automated signage???

The amount of stress bad signage can cause let alone the waste of fuel and environment issues can be immense when you add it up!

With all the changes to the Electrical Industry at the moment These are a must, and if you are going with any new tech such as EV, Solar or battery its important you have the correct one!

HOW MUCH! ££££

National Grid (Distribution Network Operator or DNO) - £94.50 to simply pull out and re-insert a house service fuse in order that I may fit a 'client/contractor' isolator switch?
They also get to choose the date ? 😳

Its £266.76 for them to pull the fuse and fit the isolator 😟.

(BTW an isolator costs about £12!)

For all the enormous amount of proposed future changes to our domestic (and commercial) electrical infrastructure that we will ALL have to face just in order to keep up with the new "prosumer tech", providing this small but essential simple system protection for the client should not be merely a money making exercise for investors but should be Free of Charge.
...and YES 'Prosumer' is a real word for those who do not follow the industry 😅!

Have attended on quite a few DIY jobs where the clients are updating the look of their 'white' accessories, (generally in their kitchens).
They are purchasing 'job lots' of replacement sockets, switches and isolators etc from large DIY outlets.
Although these accessories fully comply with BS standards (or I hope they do!) and may even look good, some are not as good as others especially as to markings for LIVE, NEUTRAL and EARTH connections.
Reversed Polarities and unrealised 'switched' connections in lighting & fans have been very common, along with electric shocks received by the client, prompting an electrician call out !

SWITCH OFF ALL supplies at the fuse board and if you must 'do it yourself' perhaps pay that little bit extra 🤑. Its safer! and you won't pay with your "life", or worse? any emergency call out costs!

These examples below are a indication of properly identifiable connections, which would make it easier for the DIYer (along with many others both types sold in B&Q)... 👍
However its safer to get a suitably insured contractor in😇

It appears that you may not need planning after all to install permanent Air Con units in your home, and with forecasts of more heat waves this will have to be part of the booming tech industries along with solar battery and EV...(especially for those who can afford it).

There has been media coverage this week suggesting that air conditioning is banned in homes. This is incorrect. Air conditioning can be installed in both existing and new homes. In most cases, planning permission is not required to install it
