📣 We’re absolutely delighted to announce that we’ve received planning permission for an exciting new chapter in our Minch RFC journey! 📣

Since opening our clubhouse in 2017, our club has gone from strength to strength, with growing numbers across our senior, mini and junior sections, and our fantastic, women’s and girls’ section. It’s amazing to see our club community thrive, and now it’s time for our clubhouse to grow with us!

So, what’s in the plans?
- More changing rooms and an additional referees’ room
- A bigger clubroom, with an enlarged kitchen and bar
- More lounge space for members and visitors
- A dedicated club shop
- Improved accessibility
- Solar panels to help make our clubhouse greener!

We’re delighted to be working once again with Architecture & Landscape, the team behind our existing clubhouse. Matthew Austin knows our club, our people and our needs, making ADW the perfect partner to help bring this next phase to life.

Our aim is to start building in 2027!

Of course, a project of this size will require a huge financial commitment. We’re already exploring grant opportunities, and there’ll be plenty of fundraising to come.

But if there’s one thing we know, we are ‘one club’ and together we can achieve amazing things. We did it before when we bought Hollybush and built our clubhouse, and we’re ready to do it again!

This is about creating an even better home for everyone in our club, now and for generations to come. We can’t wait to see what the future holds!

A big win off the pitch: we’re all jumping for joy that planning has been approved for Minchinhampton RFC.

We’re delighted to have helped Minchinhampton Rugby Club secure planning permission for a series of improvements to its clubhouse at Hollybush Farm.

It’s a project particularly close to home for Austin Design Works. We worked with the club on the original clubhouse, completed in 2017, and since then have watched Minchinhampton RFC grow considerably, across its senior teams, minis and juniors, and with the development of a thriving women’s section.

That success has brought a very welcome challenge: the club now needs more space.

In February 2024, we became a certified B Corp, formalising something that has always been important to us: creating places that work for people, communities and the natural world.

It’s a principle that runs through our projects, from the Walled Garden at Stroud’s and Horsley Community Play Park to the Ruskin Mill Trust Artisan Woodland Craft Garden, which recently won a Gold Medal at RHS Badminton.

Each project is different, but the thinking is connected. How can we make better use of a place? Work with nature rather than against it? Create something that will be valued for years to come?

For us, sustainability goes beyond the materials we choose or the buildings we design. It’s also about the people who use these spaces, the communities they bring together and the legacy we leave behind.

That’s what being a B Corp means to us.

What actually makes a good architect?

It’s not just about drawing a beautiful building. A good architect listens properly. They understand how you live, what you need from a space and what matters most to you.

They see the bigger picture too, the building, the landscape, the light, the views, the history of a place, the planning constraints and, importantly, the budget.

They know when to preserve what’s already there and when to make a change. They think about how a home will feel to live in every day, not just how it will look in photographs. They make complicated things feel manageable, from planning and building regulations to consultants, contractors and costs.

And sometimes, their greatest value is in seeing a solution you hadn’t thought of yet.

For us, good architecture is about creating places that work beautifully, belong in their setting and feel right for the people who use them.
