We recently welcomed students from St John Ogilvie High School, to our Rench Farm HQ as part of the GROW Project.

QTS continues to work in partnership with DYW Glasgow to support young people in gaining valuable insight into a range of industries and experiencing real-life work tasters.

During their visit, students had the opportunity to meet members of our team including Jane McFadzean (Social Value), Keith Lyall (HSQE), Cayleb Stuart (Trainee Civil Engineer) and Cameron Couston (Environmental).

The session included a site visit around the Rench, a mini-induction, and hands-on STEM activities designed to showcase the breadth of career opportunities available.

We recently completed a week of vegetation management works in Appleby on behalf of Network Rail.

Using specialist equipment, including a 30m articulated crane with grapple saw and RRV Excavator with Tree Shear, our team safely removed roadside Ash trees affected by Ash Dieback and reduced trackside conifers encroaching into the railway’s safe clearance zone.

The project was delivered with safety, environmental responsibility, and consideration for residents at the forefront throughout.

Over the coming months, QTS will be taking on the Tough Mudder UK challenge again in Edinburgh and Skipton.

This year, we will be supporting the British Heart Foundation and Glasgow Children's Hospital Charity.

Hannah and Glynn explain why these charities are so important to us and how you can help us achieve our fundraising goals.

If you are able to, please consider donating towards the amazing charities here - https://www.justgiving.com/team/qts-group-9

Our Future of Rail event invites school pupils, young professionals, and job seekers to explore the rail industry at an individual level, helping them understand the different opportunities and routes available to them.

Last week, we welcomed over 400 eager attendees to our Rench Farm headquarters, where we hosted a range of activities and workshops. These included plant machinery and survey equipment showcases, STEM workshops, and a networking hub with supply chain partners for our day two visitors.

George Bream, a teacher from Loudoun Academy, said of the day:

“This event is something that I can’t explain to my students through a presentation in my classroom, it gives them context to the jobs available.”

Don't forget, QTS offers early careers opportunities in a variety of fields.

Make sure to get your application in by next Friday through the link here - https://www.qtsgroup.com/vacancy/early-careers-opportunities/

We recently brought our NW&C teams together for our Safety Stand Down at Preston North End FC.

The morning was packed with insights from across the organisation, including:

🟧 An opening from Ben Houseman and Joe Urquhart, reinforcing key learnings and takeaways.

🟧 An Area Familiarisation session from Ben Male with an engaging interactive quiz.

🟧 An Occupational Health explainer and promotion, delivered by Kirsty Craig; reminding all that health is integral to safety.

We also welcomed motivational speaker Tom Corfield, who delivered an inspiring session highlighting his own life changing experience that really reinforced the importance of speaking-up; spotting and raising safety concerns on-site, which could lead to preventing an injury.

Alongside the talks, employees were encouraged to take part in voluntary bowel, ovarian and prostate health screenings, provided by Ayrshire Medical Services.

Days like this are a great reminder that safety is not just about what we do on site, it’s how we act on site, A big thank you to everyone who contributed and took part.

QTS was appointed by Network Rail to deliver specialist masonry repairs on the historic Gelt Viaduct.

A Grade II listed structure built in 1835 on the Carlisle–Newcastle line.

Over an 11‑week programme, our team used MEWPs and road closures to complete stonework repairs, stitching, vegetation removal and ballast board replacements, with like‑for‑like stone sourced locally in line with listed building consent.
