Lithium-ion batteries are becoming part of everyday business.
Company vehicles. E-bikes. Power tools. Laptops. Portable equipment. EVs.
But have you considered what happens when one of those batteries starts to fail?

A lithium-ion battery fire doesn't necessarily begin with smoke. Before visible fire appears, a failing cell can release flammable vapour as it enters thermal runaway.
And that creates a problem for conventional Fire Detection.

UK fire brigades attended around 1,760 lithium-ion battery fires in 2025, according to QBE research. That's nearly 4.8 incidents every day, with the number of attended fires up 147% since 2022.

So is your existing Fire Detection strategy actually designed to identify this type of risk?

Our latest article looks at what Responsible Persons need to understand, including:
• Why lithium-ion fires behave differently
• Why conventional smoke detection may not provide the earliest warning
• What BS 5839-1:2025 means for detector selection
• Where off-gas, multi-sensor and aspirating detection can fit
• Why an extinguisher isn't a complete solution
• What you should be reviewing now

The technology is changing. Is your Fire Detection strategy keeping up?

WHAT SHOULD HAPPEN IN AN INTRUDER ALARM MAINTENANCE VISIT? ❓❓

- For wireless alarm systems, the battery for each sensor is also tested.
- Checking alarm signalling equipment for systems with remote/police monitoring if installed.
- Check voltages, charging voltages and battery output, electronic test the battery as well.

Live Facial Recognition legislation puts it in a stricter category than CCTV. See the lawful-basis, DPIA and governance steps retailers must work through.

04/10/2026

Most retailers treat facial recognition like CCTV with better software. It isn't.

CCTV footage is personal data. Facial recognition turns a face into biometric data, which sits in a stricter legal category with a higher bar for getting it wrong.

That difference changes everything: the lawful basis you need, the documentation you have to produce before you switch anything on, and the safeguards that have to run every single day.

Get the category wrong and you're building compliance on the wrong foundation. A 2025 case involving a major retailer shows exactly what that looks like when it reaches a customer.

We walk through what actually applies, and what has to be in place before you go live, in the article.
