🚨 WHEN A BATHROOM RENOVATION UNCOVERS A HIDDEN DANGER… 🚨
On a very recent bathroom renovation, we experienced a very rare and extremely serious situation.
We were at the final stages of the job — brand-new wall panels, new toilet and sink combination units, a brand-new LVT floor and a new towel rail radiator.
While tightening the radiator valves, we suddenly noticed a strong smell of gas coming from underneath the floorboards.
⚠️ We acted immediately.
Our gas sniffer confirmed the presence of gas, so we isolated the mains gas supply and began carefully dismantling the newly completed bathroom to locate the source.
That meant removing the toilet and sink units, lifting the brand-new LVT flooring, removing the ply underneath and then lifting the original floorboards.
We then used our trusted endoscope camera to inspect beneath the floor…
And there it was. 😳
🔎 A gas pipe had been screwed through approximately 16 years ago during the original bathroom installation.
It appears that the recent renovation work — including removing old tiles and general movement around the area — may have disturbed the damaged pipe enough to cause the leak.
Thankfully, we found it before the job was signed off.
This is exactly why we don’t simply cover things up and walk away when a job looks finished.
We check. We investigate. We test. We make sure it’s safe.
What could have remained hidden behind a brand-new bathroom could potentially have resulted in serious injury, loss of life or catastrophic property damage.
The customer now has peace of mind knowing the issue was discovered and dealt with properly.
