Thereâs a quiet satisfaction in resolving pest problemsâespecially when they begin with something as small and easily overlooked as a beetle.
Yesterday was a busy day for Potteries Pest Control, but one job stood out. A customer contacted us after noticing a number of beetles appearing in their kitchen. Not a major infestation in plain sight, but enough to cause concernâoften a sign of a hidden issue.
On arrival, a full inspection was carried out. The insects were quickly identified as flour beetles, a common pest linked to stored food and forgotten debris. While tiny, they can establish quickly if the right conditions are present.
The key to solving the problem was finding the source. After checking cupboards and food storage areas, attention turned to the less visible spaces. Beneath the fridge unit, the cause became clearâa build-up of food debris, including a large amount of flour that had collected over time.
This hidden area had become an ideal breeding ground. All stages of the beetle life cycle were present, including larvae, pupae, and adult beetles, confirming an active infestation.
A targeted treatment was carried out to bring the issue under control, along with clear advice to the customer. A thorough deep cleanâespecially beneath and around appliancesâwas essential to remove the food source and prevent the problem returning.
