HOW SECURE IS YOUR GARDEN? 🔒

Fencing and gates aren’t just about making the garden look tidy — they also help create that first layer of security around your home.

A loose gate, broken panel or damaged fence can make access much easier than it should be.

A few things worth checking:

* Is your gate strong and closing properly?
* Are the hinges and latch secure?
* Are any fence panels loose or damaged?
* Are there gaps that have appeared over time?
* Is anything leaning or starting to weaken?

Sometimes a small repair is all that’s needed to make things feel much more secure again.

🐝 Remember the job where the wasps decided we weren't welcome? 😂

Well, the nest has now been dealt with, the coast was clear and we managed to get back and finish the job properly.

✅ Fence completed
✅ No wasps this time
✅ Cat gap included so the four-legged boss can still get through

A much calmer second visit all round… although I think Paul was still keeping one eye on the bushes 👀

Another made-to-measure job finished and another garden sorted.

A tidy one between two driveways this time.

We installed a new fence using concrete posts and plinths, with feather edge boards and capping on top to help protect the fence and give it a neat, finished look.

It wasn’t quite as straightforward as it looked either — we had to take key blocks out and dig through concrete to get the job done properly.
But that’s how we like to do it.

Do the hard bit, do it right, and leave everything looking as good as new once we’re done.

Strong, tidy and built to last 👌

We’ve definitely started to feel that change in the weather!

The wind’s picking up, the rain is making a comeback and before we know it, autumn will be well and truly here.

And unfortunately, that’s often when those wobbly posts, loose panels and tired old fences start showing us just how tired they really are. 😬

If you’ve got a fence that’s already leaning, rattling or looking a little worse for wear, it might be worth getting it checked before the stronger weather does the checking for you! 😂

THE BIG GARDEN TIDY-UP 🧹

World Cleanup Day feels like a good excuse to give the garden a proper once-over before autumn really kicks in.

It’s the perfect time to clear back overgrown areas, tidy up around fencing and spot any little issues that may have been hidden through summer.

Look out for:

*loose or leaning posts
*damaged panels
*gates that are starting to drop
*rot around the bottom of timber
*areas where plants are pushing against the
fence

A quick check now can save a much bigger job later.

SEPTEMBER FENCE CHECK 👀

September is that in-between month — the garden still looks good, but the weather is starting to change.

A bit more wind, a bit more rain, and suddenly that fence post that was “probably fine” all summer doesn’t look quite so convincing. 😬

Now is a really good time to check for:

loose or wobbly posts
damaged panels
gates that are catching or dropping
timber that’s starting to rot or weaken

Catching a problem early can sometimes mean a simple repair rather than waiting until the stronger weather causes bigger damage.

If your fencing is looking a little tired, give us a shout and we can take a look.

Well… today’s job didn’t quite go to plan. 🐝😂

Paul arrived bright and early, ready to crack on with the fencing…

Unfortunately, nobody had informed the wasps.

One disturbed nest later and Paul had been stung THREE times and was apparently performing some sort of dance around the customer’s garden. 🕺🐝🐝🐝

Ben, being the supportive son and workmate that he is…

found the whole thing absolutely hilarious. 😂

Needless to say, the wasps won this round.

We’ve had to rearrange the job and swap things around until the nest can be dealt with safely.

Just another glamorous day in the world of fencing. 🤦‍♀️😂

And if anyone needs Ben, he’s probably still laughing.

NOT EVERY DODGY-LOOKING FENCE NEEDS RIPPING OUT 👀

Sometimes a fence looks past its best, but that doesn’t always mean it needs replacing.

A few repairs, a new post, some strengthening or replacing one damaged section can sometimes be enough to give it a new lease of life.

That can mean:

* less waste
* less disruption
* a lower cost than a full replacement
* keeping the parts of your fence that are still perfectly sound

Of course, some fences really are beyond saving — but we’ll always look at what actually needs doing rather than replacing something unnecessarily.

BACK FOR ROUND THREE 🔨

And this one finishes the garden off nicely!

After completing the fencing and gate down the side, then returning to update the back fencing, our customer wanted one final touch — a **decking area where she can sit back, relax and enjoy the garden.**

We also want to give a little shout-out to the youngest member of the Hardy & Brookes team — Ben. 👏

Ben has worked hard over the last few years, learning the trade properly, building his confidence and taking real pride in what he does.

He’s now becoming a **true craftsman in his own right** — and this decking is a brilliant example of just how far he’s come as he did most of the work. Very Proud of Him 🙂

A lovely way to finish off a returning customer’s garden. 👌
