PLANTING DESIGN

A lovely little planting job this week. 2 small borders outside this gorgeous home in Bramhall. Existing plants pruned and cared for, defining the beds and taking out the w**ds, and planting up with a range of hardy bright flowering plants for a riot of colour against the white render of the house.

Plants include Crocosmia Lucifer, Euphorbia and geranium Patricia. Looking forward to seeing this one establish. Bulb layer to follow on the Autumn.

Musings on starting new gardens and what happens in the process....

We have to take out before we can put in, and sometimes that feels like the wrong thing to do.

Always aiming to look after our soil, the creatures in it and the soul of the space.

TROPICAL SHADE BORDER

A very hot day planting up this mammoth border in Bramhall today.

The border is in full shade most of the day due to the high hedge, but we wanted tropical feels and bright colours.

A mix of ferns, acers, Foxgloves and shade classics like brunnera and hosta. And of course, our statement tree fern, what a stunner!

Looking forward to seeing this one fill out over the next year. And adding in some bulbs later in the year too.

Our plants arrived earlier in the week, so I sat them in a some trays to keep them hydrated in this crazy weather. Came to plant up today and some little friends were hiding out among the plants! 3 newts and a lil frog! Build it and they will come...

LUNCHTIME GARDEN CLUB IS BACK

this week get out and w**d your path. 5-10mins makes a huge difference. If your path is bigger, dont be put off, just do a few short bursts and it'll done in no time. Reward yourself with a brew outside and a good podcast in your ears.

CUTTINGS

a little experiment in taking cuttings from an Acer today. The theory work across most plants. Houseplants are a great place to start if you're new to cuttings. Have a snip and have a go.

The important part is cutting just below a node for the base and just above for the top. This is where the growing hormones are so you get the best chance of roots forming.

Have a snip and let me know how you get on!

OUR SERVICES

There are lots of ways to work together, including a couple of new services too!

Our classic planting design and garden design options are always popular, perfect if you want an overhaul and need expert help.

For those who want to be more hands on, our new garden coaching option let's us work together, me guiding you, leaving you feeling confident in your outdoor space.

Our consultation option is great for if you need a little advice, perhaps you have some building works beginning and you want to include the garden in those plans, but it's too early financially to get a designer on board. Or maybe you want to do it yourself, you just need some guidance getting started.

I'm planning to run more workshops over the year amd our planter subscriptions are a great easy way to brighten up a window sill or corner.

If you are a community group or commercial project looking for wildlife and nature focused garden input, I'm always open to collaborative projects, helping bring nature into our urban areas.

Get in touch, I'd love to hear from you

THE ART OF WAITING

Sometimes we rush decisions and forge ahead, just wanting to get to the finish line. But gardens really ask us to pause, and if you are looking for a way to slow down, even for just a few moments each day or week, I can't recommend gardening enough.
And you get flowers!!!

GARDEN CENTRES

Always a good call on a wishy washy weather day. Some gorgeous plants in at this time of year and some more unusual specimens too.

What would you pick up?

SWEET PEAS

Pinching out your sweetpeas is a great way to get a stronger bushier plant with more flowers. It seems drastic but it's absolutely worth it.

My seedlings are a little gangly this year so I'll likely grab some extras at the garden centre to bulk these out.
