When the best playing surface in the world wears out... that's success.

At first glance, these two images of Wimbledon's Centre Court tell a simple story.

Day 1. Perfect.

Championship Point. Worn.

But what they really show is the incredible demands placed on a natural playing surface.

Over two weeks, the world's best players repeatedly serve, sprint, stop and change direction in exactly the same areas. No amount of preparation can stop natural wear. Instead, the goal is to ensure the court performs consistently from the opening point to the final championship winner.

What many people don't see is the work that happens long before the tournament begins.

Within weeks of the final, the renovation process starts all over again. The remaining grass is removed, the surface is relevelled, reseeded and carefully managed over the following months to produce another world-class court.

It's a reminder that the best sports surfaces aren't judged by how they look on Day 1.

They're judged by how they perform on Day 14.

At Greentech Sportsturf, the same principles apply whether we're working on a golf course, football pitch or elite performance facility. The best preparation is often the work nobody notices.

What sporting surface has impressed you most this summer?

Healthy surfaces start below ground.

What happens beneath the surface has a direct impact on turf quality, plant health and long-term performance.

Strong roots, active soil biology and efficient nutrient uptake all play a role in producing resilient playing surfaces that can perform throughout the season.

Our ReGen range has been developed to support both plant and soil health, helping turf managers create stronger root systems, healthier soils and more consistent surfaces.

Because the best playing surfaces are built from the ground up.

Less than four weeks ago, we started work on this pitch.

From freshly seeded bare ground to its first cut in just three weeks. Watching a grow-in develop has been a fantastic experience and a reminder of just how remarkable grass is to work with.

One of the most rewarding parts of the summer is helping clubs prepare for pre-season, ensuring surfaces are ready for players returning and the demands of the new campaign.

The work doesn't stop when the season ends.

We spent the day in the sunshine last week at Oriam, based at Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh.

Throughout the close season, we have been working to prepare the pitches used by the SFA, Heart of Midlothian and Scottish Rugby Union, helping ensure the surfaces remain at the highest standard all year round.

A great environment to work in and good to see the progress being made across the site.

Premiership status retained on Monday. Preparations for next season begin on Tuesday.

We’re spending this week at the SMiSA Stadium, home of St Mirren FC lifting and replacing the pitch ahead of the 2026/27 season.

To remove the top layer of the park, we use a machine called a Koro. This strips away the old vegetation before we replace the existing sand with fibre sand, overseed the surface, fertilise it and begin the grow-in process ready for the new season.

Delighted to see the club retain their Premiership status and always a pleasure working alongside the team in Paisley.

Scotland’s World Cup venue is undergoing a major surface transformation ahead of the 2026 tournament.

Gillette Stadium, home of Scotland’s group stage matches against Haiti and Morocco, is replacing its long-standing artificial surface with a newly installed natural grass pitch to meet FIFA requirements.

For the sports turf industry, it is another reminder that elite performance starts beneath the surface.

We took a closer look at what this transformation says about modern surface performance, drainage, rootzone construction and the growing importance of natural turf at the highest level of the game.

As the countdown to the 2026 FIFA World Cup continues, one of the tournament’s host venues has been undergoing a major surface transformation. Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts, home of the NFL’s New England Patriots, has replaced its long-standing artificial turf surface with a newl...

Investing in our team

This week our team completed their First Aid training, making sure they are equipped with the knowledge and confidence to respond when it matters most.

Health and safety is a key part of how we operate across every site, and having trained staff on the ground is essential to maintaining a safe working environment.

A good few days of learning and a valuable addition to the team’s skillset.

On the road with a fresh look 🍃

Our van has had a full wrap courtesy of the team at Appeal Media and we are delighted with how it has turned out.

Having clear, consistent branding out on the road is a simple but effective way to raise awareness of Greentech Sportsturf and the work we carry out across Scotland.

A big thank you to Appeal Media for a great job from start to finish.

If you spot us out and about, give us a wave.

Installation at Oriam Sports Facility

We recently completed the installation of a state of the art POGO TurfPro weather station at Oriam.

This was followed by a seminar with the groundstaff, focusing on the Pogo water monitoring system and how it integrates with the weather station to support better decision making on site.

A great session sharing practical insight and helping the team get the most from the data available to them.
