Ongoing series “funeral songs’ - memento vivere - memento mori. Selecting the perfect song for your own funeral is a serious matter. A soundtrack of love, humour, sentiment as the curtain closes. Whenever I hear either song from my parent’s funerals, weirdly...it gives me a boost. What would you choose? I’ve been revisiting these 20 x 20cm boards and expanding my collection. I thought I’d take some photos today, pimp up social media etc. and was photo bombed by Miss Lemon and Captain Hastings (Newly adopted kittens!)

‘Lucky Shoe’ Shoes are traditionally lucky and warded off evil. In old houses, shoes were hidden in walls and roofs as protective charms, an apotropaic act to keep homes safe. Ghostlike in the background is at Saffron Walden, once Cromwell’s HQ, it’s pargeting shows Tom Hickathrift in his fine 17th-century shoes battling a giant — this inspired a collaborative monumental shoe, masterminded by for an exhibition in 2024
Shoes are celebratory, too — dancing shoes, rhythmic footsteps. Hence the Morris beasts cavorting through the foliage. As always there’s all sort of other fanciful ideas hidden/incuded - keys, votive offerings, snail, birds, Essex pig…

After having a good old New Year’s Eve think to myself... I’ve realised I’ve actually achieved quite a bit in 2025. Exhibiting at Halesworth Gallery in the summer was wonderful. Helping to deliver was another highlight. I seized every opportunity and squeezed as much painting into my life. I’ve had a lot of support in my ventures and I’m eternally grateful. Happy new year 🥳

Happy New Year 🦊❤️ Yesterday I finished off some small oil studies of sleeping ginger creatures. When my brain is frazzled it nice to just tinker with something I’ve already started.
