We have painted two in recent weeks, one in a university lecture room and one in a large commercial building, and it is a request that keeps coming up. ๐ค
The reason is simple. A black ceiling disappears. Ductwork, cable trays, pipework and lighting track all stop drawing the eye, so a room with exposed services looks deliberate rather than unfinished.
In a lecture room that matters, because attention goes straight to the front where the screen and the lecturer are rather than drifting upwards. A dark ceiling also stops light bouncing back down, so projected slides hold their contrast and the lighting can be aimed exactly where it is wanted.
Commercial spaces get the same benefit for different reasons. Bars, restaurants, gyms, studios and retail units all use black ceilings to add depth and make a room feel considered, and it hides the practical clutter that sits above head height in most modern buildings.
The catch is that it is not an easy finish to get right. Black shows every missed patch and every bit of overspray, and coverage on exposed metalwork takes proper prep. Spraying above your head, there is no avoiding a bit of fallout, so the team come down wearing almost as much as the ceiling. The ceiling always looks better than they do.๐
We work across offices, warehouses, schools, universities, churches and pubs, fitting the work around your schedule so the space is back in use quickly. Call 01780 592513 or email [email protected] for a no obligation quote.
