🧑‍🎨HOW TO GET RID OF AN UNWANTED HOLE 🕳️

- screw battons across the inside of the hole 🔨
- cut out a piece of plasterboard the same size as the hole and screw to the battons with plasterboard screws ✂️
- sand the surrounding area flat so that your not just filling the fitted surface but skimming over a uniform finish 🫓
- skim over the entire surface slightly wider than the hole and embed glass reinforced mesh for added strength 💪
- lightly sand and hoover the filler 🧽
- apply a second coat of filler wider than the previous
- lightly sand again and hoover 🧑‍🎨
- in the bathroom I sealed with zinsser gardz as a bolt and brace method before applying a primer for opacity. 🛀
- finally apply two top coats 🎨

👀 👌 SEE THIS HALL STAIRS AND LAND TRANSFORMATION…. With the usual approval from my dog🐕

How to roll a wall like a pro ❔❔🧑‍🎨

- go for a trade paint (yes there are some good off the shelf paints) but generally your trade paints have a lot more substance to them 💪
- get yourself a microfibre roller: medium pile 👨‍🎨
- I like to dilute my trade paints 5% or slightly less: just to help with flow and open time. You want each wall to be consistently wet by the time you get to the other end 💧
- don’t try to squeeze the paint out of the roller if your covered in paint even on ceilings your doing it wrong ❌
- after the first coat. You should complete each wall individually, this avoids pitcher framing 📸
- you want to do the exact same motion on each section: same width etc. I.e if you are going up and down 6 times the next section you aim for up and down 6 times. This keeps everything the same and ensures you get a flat and uniform finish 👍
- when you cut in roller over the brush to get a uniform finish when the middle meets the top edge
- cut around the perimeter first and light switch last to ensure the switch area is very wet when you come to roll up to it 🎨

I’m sure other decorators have things they can add here so please do in the comments 👇

💎 THE BEST BIT OF THE JOB 📏

As always thanks to .uk for never letting me down on producing those beautiful crisp lines

✅ Yes it’s a lot of tape
✅ Yes it takes time
✅ Yes I’m aware there are a few bleeds

But nothing beats a crisp factory edge line and a bold colour. 😮‍💨

The full reveal of this hallway coming soon….

🏠 NEW JOB 🏠

I’d say 70% of my job is prep… and so it should be.
Without these relentless hours prep you cannot achieve that top quality and long lasting finish 👌

“Lucky” for me everything is sanding very well, I can’t wait to get some paint on 😃 🎨

This is my second day of prep 2 X 11 hour days and so far so good. All the sanders have been working like dogs

🔈SOUND ON🔈

What’s that’s orange stuff? Repair Care 🍊

Repair care is a permanently elastic, solvent-free, two part compound. Designed for sustainable timber restoration and maintenance 💪

This makes it an exceptional product for wood repairs. Particularly where there is a lot of movement and flex.

As this project is at my mums I was able to see what worked last time and what failed. Those failed areas are where I have opted for repair care. Providing added strength and flexibility where other product have failed ✅

FULL TIMELAPSE⏱️

In real time this took 30-40 minutes working on top of a previously sprayed surface with more focus on fine tuning some of the lower edges etc 🔫

On a previously hand painted surface in poor condition this can take me up to 2 /2.5 hours to get ready for spraying. ⏱️

In the decorating world the job always gets 10 times worse before it’s gets better “prep hard paint easy” 💪

I can’t wait to get spraying here… stay tuned

🔈SOUND ON 🔈 HOW TO GET YOUR ARCHITRAVES 👌

Every decorator has their own processes and tools that they have adapted over time. Here is my step by step process for sanding architraves. 💯

Note this is just the first stage of preparation getting the woodwork ready for PRIMING! Stay tuned

I have taken a lot of what I know from the following finishers and decorators

- unbelievable work, excellent content. Yes a completely different world being a cabinet finisher compared to decorating but preparation wise a lot that is implementable in the decorating world.

- exceptional decorator. I came across Nick on insta early doors. He has always been extremely helpful and supportive and equally was very influential in guiding my initial purchase of my sanders and also offered great content that has impacted my prep game.

- some beautiful work and content. His work consistently demonstrates how taking the time to uncover those finer details in the early stages really does make a difference.

always sharing his knowledge particularly those little tips and tricks that go along way in producing quality work with speed and ease.

🔉 SOUND ON… ASMR CURVED CEILING SKIM 🔉

Second skim on this curved ceiling. All the skrim has been covered and 90% of the undulations have gone. 🌊

1 more to go then a sand to 320 and it will be golden and more importantly strong and flexible round the edges 💪
