With over 20 years’ experience, MAC Groundwork Contractors Ltd delivers high-quality civil engineering, groundworks, and surfacing solutions across the UK.

Based in Stafford, we serve sectors including commercial, residential and sports and leisure. Our hand lay teams have many years of experience in all aspects of surfacing, from small domestic driveways to play parks, footpaths and all the way through to major highway surfacing contracts, ground works and drainage. We are also experts in related fields of play park installations and multi user game

areas (MUGA). Be it machine lay or hand lay, we have a variety of staff and equipment suitable for any road surfacing contract. We pride ourselves on our quality of workmanship and are driven to find new ways to serve our customers by delivering the highest quality work to deadline. Our staff training and experience means that customers can be assured that our work will always be carried out to the highest standard. Working to the finest tolerances, our brand new laser track Bitelli Paver is suitable for most surfacing contracts that require finished surfaces to be within + / - 3-5mm, therefore making the machine highly suitable for multi-use games areas(MUGAs) as well as other sports and leisure applications.

📍 Current Vacancies

✅ Contracts Co-ordinator

- Organising and coordinating projects from start to completion
- Liaising with clients, suppliers, subcontractors, and site teams
- Scheduling labour, plant, and materials
- Managing project documentation and maintaining records
- Strong organisational and communication skills essential
- Experience within construction, civil engineering, or groundworks preferred

✅ Senior Tarmac Finisher / Roller Operator

- Experienced in asphalt/tarmac surfacing
- CPCS/NPORS Roller ticket preferred
- Ability to work to a high standard across a variety of projects
- Leadership experience advantageous

✅ Experienced Groundworker

- Civil engineering and groundwork experience essential
- Drainage, kerbing, foundations, paving, and general groundwork duties
- Experience in installing sports pitches, MUGAs, and associated infrastructure highly desirable
- CSCS Card and UK Driving Licence required

This week marks 15 years since Stuart Hoptroff joined MAC Groundworks. Since 2011, Stuart has progressed through a range of roles to become Executive Director, building expertise across business management, commercial performance, and strategic planning along the way.

His hands-on understanding of the business has enabled him to streamline internal systems, strengthen operational efficiency, and support sustainable growth across all areas of the company. He has been instrumental in securing ISO 9001 and NHSS accreditations, and his structured approach to forecasting, budgeting, and decision-making continues to support the long-term stability of the business.

The upgrade of the cycle route in Gilwern has now been successfully completed.

The scheme included resurfacing works with the application of a tack coat and a 14 mm Dense Binder overlay, together with tree root protection measures to preserve the surrounding environment.

The upgrade improves the quality of the route for social and leisure cycling, helping to create a more inviting shared‑use space for all users.
