Great British Jigsaws was formed in March 2020 by a husband-and-wife team and specialises in producing quality jigsaw puzzles, working with some of the UK's best artists and photographers, from design to dispatch.

A lovely fresh puzzle out on the table for you to have a go at when you stop by our shop in Trentham Estate!

🎃 As it is spooky season… did you know Staithes has some interesting spooky stories? 👻

Here’s a little ghost story for you - The Ghost of Cowbar Nab

Some fishermen were terrified of crossing near Cowbar after dark because of a ‘headless phantom of a woman’

In 1808 a young woman was reportedly killed when a falling rock from the cliff struck and decapitated her while she sat near the shore.

Stories claim her ghost wandered the cliffs carrying her head in a basket!

‘A puzzle shared is a puzzle halved’

Raising awareness and supporting mental health is important to us here at Great British Jigsaws.
After all, jigsaws can help mental health so much!

🧩 Did you know 🧩

The popularity of jigsaw puzzles mainly booms during times of great mental unrest, such as The Great Depression and during Covid!
They are a great source of escapism for a great many people from all walks of life!

🧩 There are many ways jigsaw puzzles benefit mental health

- Relieve stress and anxiety
Puzzling creates a meditative, calm state that can lower heart rate, blood pressure and breathing rate

- Dopamine boost
Placing a correct puzzle piece triggers a small hit of that feel good hormone which creates a sense of accomplishment and pride

- Memory and problem-solving
Exercises short-term memory, visual spatial reasoning and pattern recognition

- Digital Detox
They pull you away from screens giving your nervous system a good rest

- Mindful focus
Concentrating on a single visual and physical task can help slow down racing thoughts and can act as a mental break from daily pressures

- Social connection
Setting out a puzzle can invite family and friends to join in, talk and work together

We are looking for a friendly, enthusiastic and reliable shop assistant to join our lovely team at the Great British Jigsaws Flagship store in Trentham Estate !

This is a part-time, permanent role for the perfect dissectologist! So if you love jigsaws, enjoy meeting people and love helping people, this could be the job for you!

Hours may vary based on how busy we are and holiday cover.
But the main hours will be 10am - 5pm (shop opening times), two days one week and four days the next (including weekends), this will be alternating from week to week, so don’t worry you won’t be working every weekend!

Pay: From £12.74 per hour

🧩 What you’ll be doing 🧩

- Welcoming customers and providing a friendly helpful service (this includes helping our lovely customers choose the right puzzle for them)

- Handling cash and card payments

- Replenishing stock, keeping the shelves looking great along with unpacking and organising deliveries

- Creating attractive displays and keeping the shop clean and tidy

- Helping the day-to-day running of the shop

🧩 About you 🧩

- Friendly, approachable and confident when talking to customers

- Reliable, punctual and hardworking

- Positive and enthusiastic (about puzzles of course!)

- Well organised and attention to detail

- Comfortable working both independently and as part of a small team

- Passionate about providing great customer service

- Happy to work weekends and busy periods when required

Previous retail experience is preferred but not required as full training will be provided!
It is more important to us that you have the right attitude, being great with customers and taking pride in your work!

It’s world teachers day!

Take a minute to appreciate the teachers that inspired you!

🧩 Jigsaw puzzles were actually invented as a teaching aid!

In 1760, John Spilsbury glued a paper map onto mahogany or cedar wood, he then used a hand-held fret saw to carve out individual countries and continents. Teachers then used these to help children learn geography!

They were initially called dissected maps!

One things about us is, we do love our maps, with two lovely collections featuring maps in different styles!
