Commercial Solar Across Four Units ☀️

A look back at a commercial solar project completed by DW Energy for a four unit commercial property in Crawley, West Sussex.

Rather than installing one system across the entire site, each unit required its own solar array and inverter arrangement, designed around its individual roof space and existing electrical infrastructure.

Across the property, DW Energy installed:

☀️ 292 solar panels
⚡ 124.1 kWp combined capacity
🏢 Four individually designed solar systems
🔌 Dedicated inverter arrangements for each unit

Careful planning allowed the four installations to work as one coordinated project while providing each commercial unit with its own source of renewable electricity.

Within the first few months, the property owners reported reduced energy bills and greater energy independence, with more electricity being generated and used directly on site rather than imported from the grid.

For commercial property owners, solar doesn’t have to be limited to a single building or business. DW Energy can design systems around the different requirements of individual units while considering the wider site as a whole.

FUNDING UPDATE: EV charging grant extended for state-funded schools

The Workplace Charging Scheme for state-funded education institutions has been extended for a final year, with applications now available until 31 March 2027.

From 1 April 2026, eligible state-funded schools and education institutions can receive 75% towards the cost of purchasing and installing EV chargepoints, up to a maximum of £2,000 per socket.

Funding is available for up to 40 sockets, and academy trusts can apply for up to 40 sockets for each eligible institution within the trust.

To qualify, institutions must have an existing or future need for EV charging, suitable off-street parking and sufficient electrical capacity to support the proposed installation.

With the scheme now confirmed for its final year, it's an important funding opportunity for schools considering EV charging infrastructure for staff, visitors and future transport needs.

DW Energy can support schools through the process, from assessing the electrical capacity of your site and identifying the right charging solution through to the installation of your new EV chargepoints.

If your school is considering making use of the funding before the scheme closes, speak to the DW Energy team about your requirements. ⚡

Commercial Solar Case Study ☀️

A look back at a commercial solar installation completed by DW Energy for a high energy use business in Leatherhead, Surrey.

The project involved more than simply finding space for solar panels. With a sloping roof and internal drainage gullies, the system needed to be carefully designed to maximise on site generation while maintaining safe access and effective drainage.

DW Energy designed and installed a 109kW commercial solar PV system, including:

☀️ 270 solar panels
⚡ 109kW total system capacity
🔌 Two Solis 50kW inverters
🌦️ Weather monitoring system

Each panel was individually positioned around the roof profile and drainage gullies, with dedicated access walkways incorporated into the design for future inspections and maintenance.

The completed system now enables the business to generate renewable electricity on site, reducing its reliance on grid electricity while supporting its wider carbon reduction objectives.

It’s a great example of why commercial solar requires more than simply filling available roof space with panels. Every system needs to work with the building, the business and its long term requirements.

Thinking about commercial solar for your premises? Speak to DW Energy about a system designed around your site.

Commercial Solar Case Study ☀️

A look back at a commercial solar installation completed for ETI in Worthing, an award winning manufacturer of digital thermometers.

With significant electricity demand across its manufacturing operations, ETI wanted to reduce reliance on grid electricity and make better use of its available commercial roof space.

DW Energy designed and installed a 78 kW commercial solar PV system, including:

☀️ 189 roof mounted solar panels
⚡ 78 kW total solar PV capacity
🔋 Two Huawei inverters
🏭 A system designed around ETI’s operational electricity demand

At the time of assessment, the system was forecast to deliver annual electricity savings of approximately £12,968, equivalent to around 49% of ETI’s previous electricity bill.

For energy intensive businesses, commercial solar can provide an opportunity to generate more electricity on site, reduce exposure to grid electricity costs and put otherwise unused roof space to work.

If your business has significant daytime electricity demand, speak to DW Energy about whether commercial solar could work for your site.

Recent incidents highlight the importance of solar PV maintenance ☀️⚡

A recent fire at Malton Hospital in North Yorkshire has brought solar PV safety into the spotlight, with the local fire service indicating that the fire most likely originated around one of the solar panels. A full investigation into the incident is ongoing.

The story follows several other reported incidents involving solar installations on public buildings and serves as an important reminder that solar PV should be treated like any other significant electrical system.

A correctly designed and professionally installed solar PV system is built for long term operation, but installation shouldn't be the end of the conversation.

Regular inspection, testing and maintenance can help identify deterioration, damaged components or electrical faults before they develop into more serious problems.

Businesses routinely maintain their fire alarms, emergency lighting, security systems and other electrical infrastructure. Solar PV deserves the same consideration.

At DW Energy, our maintenance services can include inspection, testing, cleaning and ongoing support for commercial renewable energy systems, helping businesses protect their investment and ensure systems continue operating safely and effectively.

If you have an existing commercial solar installation and aren't sure when it was last inspected, speak to the DW Energy team.

Operational resilience is becoming just as important as sustainability ⚡🏭

For many commercial sites, rising energy costs and increasing electrical demand are now operational challenges, not just sustainability conversations.

Businesses are electrifying vehicle fleets, expanding facilities and relying more heavily on power-hungry equipment than ever before. At the same time, grid limitations and unpredictable energy pricing are creating growing pressure on day-to-day operations.

That’s why more businesses are investing in integrated energy systems including:
✔ Commercial solar PV
✔ Battery storage
✔ Smart energy management
✔ EV and eHGV charging infrastructure

These systems help businesses make better use of their own renewable energy, reduce exposure to peak electricity costs and create infrastructure that is built for long-term operational reliability.

For ports, warehouses, manufacturing and logistics sites, resilience is no longer a future consideration, it’s becoming part of smart business strategy today.
