Well the 11th named storm season is now underway. The first Gales have hit Scotland and the first named storm( Austen) will be along soon.

How will you get on managing your business in event you have to make a claim. Generally time is money and so when downtime is measured in thousands of pounds every hour counts. Insurance claims need evidence and quotes but getting that can take time when everyone is busy. Insurance companies may need evidence of the pre storm condition too and that can be a real block to progress if the last time your roof was looked at was when you moved your business in 15 years ago! As claim lead times stretch the disruption and sleepless nights increase. Meanwhile the damaged elevation is the least safe place to be putting a person, particularly while the weather is still unsettled. It could also be criminal too under HSE rules!

Our advice is plan now. Get a roof survey done before any storms. Then you can store that away and you have it ready when your insurance company asks for evidence of condition. Plus, if we find any damage you can get that resolved before the bad weather and before all the trades become booked up with storm repairs. What comes back isn’t a folder of phone snaps. It’s an authored report: dated and timed capture, recorded method, signed off by an identified author who will defend it if needed . That standard comes from our founder’s background, around 15 years as a criminal solicitor and advocate before 23 years as a forensic and commercial photographer.

Most claims settle without that ever being tested. But where quantum is disputed, where it’s pre-existing wear versus storm damage, or where a subrogated recovery is in play, the difference between a documented survey and undated photographs is substantial.

Then if disaster strikes you have access to our 24 hour manned number. We will be on site as soon as we are safe and legal to fly after the storm with the sole purpose of getting you the information needed to process any claim fast and successfully. The report will be to the same standards as the original and we will even make a 10% donation of our fees for the emergency call out to our local independent lifeboat so you will be helping others too.

Recording historic buildings without touching them
Listed and historic structures are the hardest to survey conventionally. Scaffolding is expensive and intrusive, fabric is fragile, and the detail that matters most — finials, parapets, leadwork, masonry, roof structures — is exactly what nobody can reach.
Image Surveys carries out non-contact aerial recording of churches, halls, mills, monuments and listed buildings, producing close-range high-resolution imagery, measured elevation records, orthorectified façade plans and 3D models of the envelope.

Drone Inspections & Surveys -- Storm Season starts today!

Getting a proper look at a roof, parapet or high-level elevation has traditionally meant scaffolding, a MEWP or someone on a ladder. Each carries cost, disruption and working-at-height risk.
Image Surveys uses a CAA-authorised drone operation to capture high-resolution imagery of roofs and building envelopes at close range and safely, usually in a single site visit. Flying an RTK-equipped DJI Matrice 4E, we record slipped and missing slates, failed flashings, cracked render, blocked valleys, spalled brickwork and vegetation growth in enough detail for a surveyor, contractor or loss adjuster to work from.
What separates our work from a photo set is the report. Every inspection is written up: annotated images, defect locations, observations, and a clear record of what was seen on the day and what could not be accessed. That written record matters when the imagery will support a dilapidations schedule, a planned maintenance programme, an insurance claim or a dispute.

Aerial mapping for land, estates and golf courses
Large or awkward sites are slow to survey on foot. A drone covers the same ground far faster and produces a complete record rather than a scatter of spot readings.
Image Surveys flies planned photogrammetric missions over farmland, country estates, golf courses, woodland and development land, producing measured aerial plans, surface models, contours and 3D terrain data.
For agricultural and estate clients this supports drainage and levelling design, field and parcel area verification, monitoring of erosion and ditch condition, hedgerow and tree mapping, and evidence for grant applications. For golf courses it supports course master planning, irrigation and drainage design, bunker and green area calculation, and accurate as-built records before and after construction.
Flights are planned around airspace, tenants, livestock, wildlife and playing schedules, with operational paperwork completed in advance. Every survey is delivered with a written record of method, control and accuracy.

Your mate has a drone and owes you a favour. Good call?

You've been appointed to manage a site or a block, you need a survey of the roof, and someone offers to pop over on Saturday and send the photos by teatime. Nothing off the budget. Sorted.

Until those images end up in a dilapidations schedule, an insurance claim, a defects negotiation or a build programme. Then three things start to matter.

1. The authorisation and insurance follow the flight, not good intentions
Most recreational pilots fly in the Open category, which keeps them well back from uninvolved people, occupied buildings and plant — exactly what you've got on a live site or a tenanted block. A CAA Operational Authorisation such as PDRA01 permits closer, more useful working under an assessed safety case, with documented risk assessment and site liaison behind it. Alongside that sits commercial public liability and professional indemnity cover that actually responds if something goes wrong. A hobby policy won't. Add ICO registration where imagery captures people or neighbouring property, and the picture's clear: if you instructed the flight, expect to be asked who checked. "He's done loads of them" isn't an answer the CAA or ICO will accept.

2. You're commissioning evidence, not photographs
Nice images don't settle disputes. RTK-corrected capture produces georeferenced, measurable deliverables — orthomosaics, elevations, 3D models — where a defect can be located and sized, not just pointed at. Flight logs, metadata and a repeatable methodology mean the record still stands when a contractor, a loss adjuster or the other side's expert starts pulling at it.

3. One properly planned visit costs less than three improvised ones
A specialist arrives knowing the coverage, overlap and altitudes the deliverable requires, works around access constraints, and captures everything in a single mobilisation. The alternative is a return visit once someone notices the parapet detail is missing — usually at the point in the programme where neither delay nor cost is welcome.

The favour is free. The rework, the argument and the uninsured claim aren't. And you might lose a mate.
