When a client says they’ve only seen 1 or 2 cockroaches 🪳 for a week 🙃

These monitors were down for 6 days and caught cockroaches of all stages - a heavy infestation to say the least!

German cockroaches can produce 10,000 offspring in a year and infestations are often at their worst in the summer months 😵‍💫🪳

🐝🏡Did you know that when a honeybee colony becomes too crowded, around half of the bees leave with their queen to search for a new place to call home? 🌼

This is called a swarm, and it's a completely natural part of a honeybee's life.

Our rescued colony made that journey before finding safety at one of HARP's women's services, where they're now settling into their new home. 💛

Over the next few weeks, we'll be sharing their story as we learn more about beekeeping and watch the hive grow.

🍯 We might even have some HARPMade Honey to share with you one day!

More than your average pest control company 🐀

Not every honeybee colony can simply be “moved.” A successful removal takes careful planning, experience, and patience to ensure the queen, brood, and as many worker bees as possible are safely relocated. 🐝

This colony had been established for 29 years, making it a large, thriving colony and a challenging removal. Add soaring temperatures, working at height, no shade, and a full bee suit, and it certainly wasn’t an easy day.

The reward? Thousands of honeybees have been given a second chance. Instead of being destroyed, they’re now safely rehomed in the apiary, where they’re settling in well and will continue their vital role as pollinators.

Every successful relocation helps preserve healthy honeybee colonies and supports our local environment.

These pests spread quickly through walls, pipework, and shared spaces, so early reporting and coordinated treatment are key.

If you spot one, don’t ignore it - I promise they do not just go away! ❌

We are proud to be apart of this 🐝

🐝💛 We've welcomed some very special new residents to our women's only service in Westcliff... around 20,000 rescued honeybees!

Thanks to Leah from Bens Bugs Pest Control, this colony has been given a second chance and a safe place to call home. With support from the Essex Beekeepers' Association, we're excited to begin our journey as beekeepers and care for our newest neighbours.

At HARP, we believe everyone deserves the chance to feel safe and rebuild their future. Our women's only service is a place where women facing homelessness can find stability, personalised support and the time to take their next steps, without judgement.

There's something wonderfully fitting about a rescued colony finding sanctuary alongside people doing exactly the same. By creating the right conditions, whether for people or pollinators, we hope to see both flourish. 🌼

Who knows... this could be the beginning of our very first jar of 🍯 HARPMade Honey!

🐝 The hornets are out and about! 🐝

If you’ve spotted a nest like this in your garden, especially in bushes, hedges, or dense shrubs, there’s a good chance it’s a hornets’ nest.

⚠️ Our advice:
• Keep a safe distance.
• Close any nearby windows and doors.
• Don’t attempt to disturb or remove the nest yourself.

Evidence of a bed bug infestation ⚠️

As bed bugs grow through 5 stages before reaching an adult, they shed their skins, leaving behind these translucent skins around beds, furniture, skirting boards, and cracks.

Finding shed skins is a strong sign that bed bugs are active and breeding.

If you spot signs like these, early action is key to preventing a larger infestation.
