Before ➡️ After – Buchan Trap Removal ✅

If your drains are constantly blocking, a Buchan trap could be the reason.

Buchan traps were commonly installed on older properties to prevent foul smells from the public sewer entering the property. While they served a purpose many years ago, modern drainage systems no longer require them, and over time they often become a common cause of recurring drainage problems.

As these traps age, they can restrict the flow of waste and collect wipes, paper, grease and other debris, leading to repeated blockages. In many cases, customers find themselves having the drains unblocked time and time again without solving the underlying issue.

The best long-term solution is often to remove the Buchan trap and install a new straight-through section of pipe. This improves the flow through the drainage system, reduces the risk of future blockages, and makes CCTV surveys and maintenance much easier.

🌳 Roots causing drainage issues? Here's why a CCTV survey is so important...

These photos show a drain heavily affected by root ingress. After carrying out specialist root cutting, we were able to clear the blockage and reveal a hidden Buchan trap that had been causing further issues within the line.

🚿 Blocked Sink Cleared – Problem Solved!

We were recently called out to a customer with a blocked kitchen sink that just wouldn’t drain properly.

After lifting the manhole and carrying out a CCTV drain inspection, we identified a large fat, oil and grease (FOG) build-up causing the blockage. Using high pressure water jetting, we safely cleared the obstruction and restored the flow.

🚨 Blocked Manhole Cleared Fast! 🚨

This manhole was completely blocked due to heavy root ingress in the clay pipe.
We carried out high pressure jetting to clear the blockage and followed up with a CCTV inspection to identify the cause.

Drain Relining & Excavation Drain Repairs Completed in Southampton 🚧

✅ 17 metres of drain relining to restore the system, as the old clay pipework was in very poor condition and starting to fail

✅ Excavation to remove a Buchan trap, which was causing constant blockages, and installing a new straight through pipe to improve flow.

✅ Excavation and replacement of a broken Y-connection, upgraded with a new durable plastic section

This was a full repair from start to finish, ensuring the drain system is running properly again and built to last.

🚧 Severe Limescale Build-Up Causing Blocked Drains & Toilet Issues 🚧

Heavy limescale build-up inside the drain pipes was causing internal blockages and preventing toilets from flushing correctly. Using high pressure drain jetting and Picote chain descaling, we safely removed the hardened scale, restoring the pipe to its full internal diameter and improving overall drainage flow.

💧Why does limescale build up?
Southampton and much of Hampshire are hard water areas, meaning the water contains high levels of minerals. Over time, these minerals harden inside pipework, creating limescale deposits that increase friction, slow water flow, reduce pipe size, and can eventually break away to cause serious blocked drains.
