H O M E _ E X T E N S I O N _

We recently revisited this project several months after completion, and it’s such a great feeling to see it lived-in.

This build was all about marrying the original 1960s structure with a generous, cohesive extension. But to us, it’s a perfect example of what happens when there’s trust.

Because our clients trusted the process, they had the freedom to really lean into their vision for the finishes and the result is stunning.

If you’re thinking about extending, altering, or building a home that will stand the test of time, send a message to start the conversation.

Sometimes, the smallest projects ask the hardest questions.

We inherited a porch design from a previous scheme, but the ground had other ideas. The site was a mix of awkward levels, failing terracing, unstable ground, and wonky steps it was clear the original proposal and standard detailing wouldn’t work. We had to pivot; focusing on some enabling works before the porch could be built.

Our job was to figure out the enabling works and new front steps. We had to integrate the retaining structures directly into the design. We went with gabion baskets and a stiff raft foundation for the porch, along with some specific ground improvements to make sure nothing budged. It’s a perfect example of how a "simple" job can actually be quite technical and how a thoughtful approach makes all the difference in the final result.

Looking forward to seeing it progress towards being on-site and sharing more soon.

Instead of shopping for finishes, our palettes are based on an understanding of how materials interact with each other.

We design with this level of intent because materiality is central to how we work and how you make your house become exceptional.

If you’re thinking beyond surface decisions and into real architectural clarity, talk to us. We would love to work with you.

Most great projects start with a feeling that something isn’t quite working; that there’s more potential in the house than is currently being used.

The role of design isn’t just to respond to a brief, but to interpret those feelings and understand what could be done before it’s obvious.

Sometimes that might mean:

1. seeing where space can be taken away rather than added

2. recognising when a small shift will have a disproportionate impact

3. or understanding how the house wants to open itself to light, garden, or views

Planning is part of the process, but it isn’t where our value sits.

Our real work happens earlier. In knowing what is possible, and shaping it into something that feels both natural and surprising.

If you’re at the stage of wondering what might be possible with your home or land, feel free to get in touch.

T E N _ Y E A R S _ O N!
Celebrating 10 years of this project, our second job ever!

A decade on, it’s still looking fresh and contemporary, a reminder that thoughtful design and quality detailing really stand the test of time.

Early in our practice, we worked closely with this family to create a home that was practical, expressive and crafted to last. The experience taught us lessons we carry into every project today:

Careful planning, clear communication, and designing for the people who will live in the home, not just the drawings.

For us, every project is guided by a simple question: what’s the best outcome for the site and for the individuals involved? That’s the matrix we use for every design, no matter the scale.

We helped obtain planning permission for this home, coordinated the structural design and prepared the building regulation drawings. Its owner then went on to build almost the entire house himself.

The result is an extraordinary level of care and craftsmanship the kind that comes from someone deeply invested in the place they are creating.

Our approach to every project is guided by a simple idea: what is the best possible outcome for the site and for the individuals involved?

That balance between place and people; is the matrix we use to guide decisions from the earliest ideas through to construction.

A rear elevation study for a substantial single and two-storey extension to a post-war house in Solihull.

Many families outgrow these houses, but the structure and setting often hold far more potential than first appears.

We work with homeowners who want to transform houses like this into thoughtful, well-crafted homes for modern family life; spaces that feel generous, connected and built to last.

With extensive experience in domestic projects, we guide the process from early design through planning and construction, coordinating trusted builders and specialists along the way so clients have one clear point of contact.

D E S I G N _ C O M P E T I T I O N

Launched by The Alternative Queen Elizabeth II Memorial Bridge Competition was an independent, open, speculative design exercise created in response to the restricted official memorial competition, inviting architects and designers to imagine alternative bridge designs for the Queen Elizabeth II memorial site.

Our approach: We took the humble postage stamp, a ubiquitous artifact of Queen Elizabeth II’s reign.

By abstracting its familiar perforated edge into the bridge’s structural rhythm, the design intent was to evoke a quiet, collective nostalgia.

The work is deliberately 'vacant'. With the Queen’s profile removed, the bridge becomes a vessel for the uncanny… a familiar form stripped of its expected image/meaning.

It exists in reference to itself only, creating an etymological 'short circuit' and inviting the observer to linger, to read between the lines. It's not just a crossing; it is a subtle prompt to reflect on how memory, form, and legacy intersect within the evolving landscape around us.

H O U S E _ E X T E N S I O N
Taking a standard late-90s developer build and giving it a contemporary voice isn't easy, but the result is worth it.

Our strategy?

1. Strip it back: We removed the detailing to a minimalist style to avoid competing with the original "fussiness."

2. Be robust: We designed an intervention with a singular vision and real presence.

We are monumentally happy with how this turned out. Proving once again that it pays to think outside the box.
