My third job yesterday 🤪, working at night 😉, for a lady, visiting her in Stockport, Manchester, to supply and code in a Continental 7" Uconnect head unit with DAB radio, Apple CarPlay 🍏 and Android Auto 🤖, to replace the 5" Uconnect DAB unit in her newly bought 2019 Abarth 595 T-Jet. Running a full ecu diagnostics check using Multiecuscan software revealed no faults at all. 👏🏻😁 Only a slight misfire likely caused by the 95RON petrol. I also noticed both heater control bulbs out which I changed, plus a dead front right speaker. Once the new head unit was fitted, along with a black surround vents trim, correctly coded and proxi aligned, all features 🍏🤖 fully working. I then used the hidden Engineering Menu diagnostics to check the AM, FM and DAB radio aerial receivers - all great reception. 😁👍🏻 The owner was pleased to be able to use Android Auto and Google Maps on a large display, plus using Google Gemini to control everything handsfree - much safer. Finally a cleanup of all TFT displays. I also gave the car a good look over checking the condition and servicing due. 🔧😊 We also discussed petrol ⛽️ 95❌️ 99✅️, phone mounts📱, Bluetooth dongles 🛜🥶, speaker upgrades 🤩🔊 and security 🚨🔒. My second job yesterday, working for a lady, a well known Abarth Club Yorkshire (& honorary East Midlands 🤣) member, visiting her in Barnsley 😉, Yorkshire, to diagnose issues with her Continental 7" Uconnect DAB radio & TomTom navigation 🗺 head unit with Apple CarPlay 🍏 and Android Auto 🤖, in her stunningly modified and rare 2017 Abarth 695 XSR Yamaha Edition. Now, bear in mind the car had just been fully serviced by the local Abarth main dealer. Running a full ecu diagnostics check using Multiecuscan software revealed old and present faults in most ecus. 🙈 Very low battery voltage. It wouldn't trickle charge even after 3hrs, so needs replacing. A faulty digital climate control hot air distribution flap actuator. Head unit CAN bus faults and proxi coding errors. All 4 tyres low pressures. Low coolant. A sticking oil dipstick. Loose air filter clips. I rectified what I could. 🪛😊 For the head unit, I cleaned it and the steering wheel buttons. Then reinstalled and upgraded the head unit software. 😁🎩🪄💥. Once correctly coded and proxi aligned, all features 🍏🤖 fully working and head unit now behaving itself. 😁👍🏻 I used the newly installed, hidden Engineering Menu to check the AM, FM and DAB radio aerial plus GPS receivers - all great reception. The owner was pleased to keep her head unit. ☺️ Another happy customer! My first job yesterday, working for a gentleman, visiting him in Lincoln, to diagnose mobile phone integration issues with their Continental 7" Uconnect head unit (with DAB radio, Apple CarPlay 🍏 and Android Auto 🤖), that I previously supplied, for his daughter's 2018 Fiat 500 1.2 Pop. Apple iPhones are being used with a wireless Bluetooth dongle (Amazon's best seller, so should be reliable). It's all been working fine for the past two months, but then it's been intermittently failing to run CarPlay. I advised they first try an electrical contact clean of the USB socket (that I cleaned before). Which helped it work better, but intermittently.
So I visited and tested my Android mobile directly using several USB data cables plus with the dongle and it worked fine 35 times. 🤔 I had a spare USB socket kindly extended 😉 (donated) recently by a customer, so I fitted that and mobile integration tested fine another 20 times. But later that evening, it failed for the customer again. 😕 So we're still working on why. If I need to visit again, I will. My third job yesterday 🤪, working for a gentleman and his partner, Abarth Club Hertfordshire members, visiting them somewhere (can you guess? 😉), to upgrade the Continental 7" Uconnect DAB radio & TomTom navigation 🗺 head unit with Apple CarPlay 🍏 and Android Auto 🤖, in their stunning recently purchased 2017 Abarth 595 Competizione 💛. They wanted Apple CarPlay without the cost of replacing the head unit and I've found a way to do it (on certain units only). Running a full diagnostics check using Multiecuscan software revealed no faults. 👏🏻😁. I replaced the passenger door handle hinge and swapped the single USB for a twin USB socket. I then performed some magic (double hint! 😉🤣). Once proxi recoded and proxi aligned, all features 🍏🤖 and the sockets fully working. 😁👍🏻 Then used the hidden Engineering Menu diagnostics to check the AM, FM and DAB radio aerial plus GPS receivers - all great reception. The owners were pleased to be able to use Apple CarPlay and Maps on a large display, plus using Siri to control everything handsfree - much safer. Then a cleanup of all TFT displays and interior mirrors. I gave the car a good look over checking the condition and servicing due. 🔧😊 We also discussed air filters 🌬, batteries⚡️, petrol ⛽️ 95❌️ 99✅️, remaps 💻👌🏻, Sabelt seats 🪣🪑, Competizione mats 😮💰, Bluetooth dongles 🛜🥶, speaker upgrades 🤩🔊, exhausts 🚗💥 and security. 🚨🔒 More happy customers! The drive back home immediately took me around something very weird (third hint! 😉). My second job yesterday, working for a gentleman, visiting him in central London, to check his recently purchased 2018 Abarth 595 Trofeo (fitted with the rare Performance Pack L*D gearbox equipped option). Nice find! 👏🏻😁 Running a partial ecu diagnostics check using Multiecuscan software revealed minor faults and proxi coding issues. This included cornering lights disabled, the Gear Shift Indicator Menu set incorrectly, DAB radio incorrectly coded so reception issues, the USB socket type not coded at all and Android Auto 🤖 not enabled. Once correctly proxi coded and proxi aligned, I test drove the car. Pretty difficult to test gear shift indicators (at max revs, in Sport mode) in the local mainly 20mph roads! 🙄🤔🤫. So left as is. 🤞🏻😉 The gentleman was pleased he's bought a great spec car and was now correctly proxi coded. We also discussed petrol ⛽️ 95❌️ 99✅️, Sabelt seats 🪣🪑, mudflaps 💦 and security 🚨🔒. My first job yesterday, back to London 😉, working for a lady and her partner, Fiat 500 Owners Club UK members, visiting them in Essex, to supply and code in a Continental 7" Uconnect head unit with DAB radio, Apple CarPlay 🍏 and Android Auto 🤖, to replace the 7" Uconnect DAB radio only unit in their lovely metallic silver (same as my 595), 2017 Fiat 500S 1.2. Running a full ecu diagnostics check using Multiecuscan software revealed no faults at all. 👏🏻😁 Just a slight misfire likely caused by the Euro6b super lean fuelling OEM engine map and use of copper spark plugs. I suggested a swap to NGK DCPR7EIX iridium spark plugs to fix. 👌🏻😊 Once the new head unit was fitted, correctly coded and proxi aligned, all features 🍏🤖 fully working. I then used the hidden Engineering Menu diagnostics to check the AM, FM and DAB radio aerials - all great reception. 😁👍🏻 The lady was pleased to be able to use Apple CarPlay and Maps (Android Auto shown) on a large display, plus using Siri to control everything handsfree - much safer. Finally a cleanup of all TFT displays and interior mirrors. I also gave the car a good look over checking the condition and servicing due. 🔧😊 We also discussed front and rear parking cameras 😬🅿️, and phone mounts📱. More happy customers!
