e and Sons was founded in the 1940’s by John Clarke as a general building contracting firm and in-house joinery workshop. In the early 1980’s John’s son - Donal Clarke, became the company’s Managing Director and lead the business through a significant period of growth, becoming recognised as the main contractor in large-scale education, commercial, industrial and community projects in the North East area of Ireland. In 1991, Donal expanded the Clarke family’s business portfolio and set up Ardee Precast Concrete Ltd. The company is still managed by Donal and continues to go from strength-to-strength as a key supplier of the Spengler System Concrete road Barrier and general builder’s market for concrete products such as beams, lintels, cills, copings and pier caps and an extensive range of fencing products. Today, Shane Clarke – Donal’s son, is the third generation of Clarke family to bring exceptional-quality products and services to the construction industry from a highly reputed and trusted name. APC Civils Ltd supply and install the System Spengler temporary and permanent road restraint system. A precast concrete barrier designed in Germany that is used regularly across Europe, UK and Ireland as a temporary or permanent road restraint protective barrier for both highway and off site earthworks projects. EN 1317 compliant, the key benefit is the speed of installation and removal for temporary installations, which is a benefit of the unique JJ hook connections. Our barriers provide an extremely high level of breach resistance under the most demanding conditions, due to the continuous triple reinforcement. No additional connectors are required and we therefore achieve problem free logistics. The system can be installed on either side of the road without the need for any modifications to our barriers. The barriers provide maximum flexibility for quick and efficient installation and maintenance. They require less maintenance (as a light impact causes no displacement), less disruption after heavy impact as our barriers can be quickly realigned with no costly repair works needed to be carried out on site. Sections can be replaced whilst ensuring the tensile reinforcement of the restraint system is retained. Our barriers are manufacturered under factory conditions, ensuring a consistent high quality product, which is cost effective due to the ease of installation. Our installation crews are Sector 2B accredited, they have received commendations for safety, outputs and flexibility of service and work closely with the main contractor, to suit their programme and site constraints. At this moment in time we are working on various jobs across the Midlands, the A1139 Fletton Parkway for Balfour Beatty were we installed 3300lm in 3 nights and another job we're on is the A45/A46 Tollbar End in Coventry where we are constantly visiting site to add and remove blocks to various locations of the job, also recently we have completed work on the A46 Project - Newark to Widmerepool road widening scheme for Balfour Beatty Major Civil Engineering where we provided almost 8000m of concrete barriers. A significant amount of the safety barriers were installed at night. We have our own transport and can deliver to site, anywhere in the UK and Ireland.
