Today is World Su***de Prevention Day.
Construction is an industry built on strength. But strength shouldn’t mean staying silent.
Men working in construction are around three times more likely to die by su***de than the male national average.
Behind that statistic are real people:
🧡colleagues
🧡friends
🧡fathers
🧡husbands
🧡sons
🧡brothers
Our industry can be demanding. Long hours, time away from home, financial pressures, physical exhaustion and the expectation to simply “get on with it” can all take their toll.
So today, we want to remind everyone across construction that asking for help is not a weakness, and checking in with someone can matter more than you realise.
Ask twice.
If someone says they’re fine but something doesn’t feel right, ask again. Make time for the conversation. Listen without judgement.
And if you’re the person struggling, please talk to someone. A colleague, a friend, your family, your GP or a support organisation. You do not have to carry everything on your own.
At Penny Roofing, we believe looking after our people means more than making sure everyone gets home safely from site. It means caring about the person who goes home, too.
We’re proud to be partnered with Victoria Richards (MBACP) at Perception Counselling Services giving our staff access to mental health support when they need it.
Start the conversation. You never know how important it might be.
