The area surrounding the hinges of a powered gate presents the greatest risk to people. Failure of a hinge can allow the gate to fall onto a person, whilst reducing gaps in this area generate enormous crushing force.

Multiple deaths and serious injuries have been caused by safety failures of this type resulting in criminal prosecutions and fines of up to £500,000.

So avoidable, and so sad,

DHF issues caution following sectional door fatality and subsequent fine.

Door & Hardware Federation (DHF) has urged caution with improper installation, maintenance and specification following the tragic death of thirty-three-year-old Mark Mathers who was strangled by his hoodie when it became hooked and wrapped around the balancing system of a sectional door he was working on at Specialist Cars Volkswagen in Aberdeen.

“This tragedy could very well have been avoided had a safe system been put in place,” explains DHF’s Senior Training & Compliance Officer, Nick Perkins.

HRD Security Solutions Ltd were recently engaged with the removal of an old, non fit for purpose sliding gate, our client had been experiencing continual breakdowns with the existing system and a new gate was well overdue.
We attended site and removed the old gate and transported to a registered waste recycling facility.
Then we fully prepared the substrate including removal and relocation of the existing lamp posts and fencing line, then created a large concrete plinth, to take the cantilever running gear.
Fully installing an 18.8 metre long X 1.4 metre high cantilever auto sliding gate.
The gate was commissioned and tested for compliance to all current health and safety regulations.
The result one very happy customer with a perfectly working gate delivered on time and on budget.

When PPF decided to upgrade the existing manual door-sets at their offices to enable the staff to be COVID safe and for the doors to be power operated for disabled access and egress, they choose HRD Security Solutions Ltd, over and above other doors companies.

HRD Security Solutions attended site over a weekend and removed three sets of single glazed doors and removed from site for disposal at a regulated waste site.
We then installed a inner liner frame to the existing glass wall and inset a bi-parting power operated swing door set complete with safety sensors and interfaced to the client's own access control system and fire alarm system.

The works were completed and the site handed back to the client on the Sunday afternoon ready for the Monday morning staff returning to work.

Some fantastic feedback received from our client for work we recently undertook.

Hi Neil,
Please may I acknowledge the excellent work completed by HRD in repairing the car park roller shutter at our site.
This involved the removal of a very heavy 9 metre steel barrel and as the installation was bespoke to us the work was shunned by other contractors including the original manufacturer/installers. HRD however surveyed, planned, and carried the work out on schedule and on price with a fluidity that belied the difficulty of the Job. I would recommend your company without reserve.
