Solar panels are a great investment, but like any electrical system, they need looking after.

Once installed, it can be easy to assume your solar PV system is just quietly doing its job in the background.

And most of the time, it is.

But over time, performance can be affected by things like dirt, debris, shading, loose connections, damaged components, inverter faults or general wear across the system.

That is why solar maintenance matters.

A planned maintenance check can help make sure your system is working safely, efficiently and as expected.

It can also help identify small issues before they become bigger, more expensive problems.

For commercial properties, this is especially important.

If your business has invested in solar, you want to know it is delivering the best possible return and supporting your energy goals properly.

Regular maintenance can help with efficiency, performance and the long-term lifespan of the system.

At Prowired Electrical, we support commercial clients with solar PV maintenance to help keep systems performing at their best.

The part of a commercial electrical project that often decides whether everything runs smoothly is not always the part people see.

It is the distribution system behind it.

The new equipment, lighting, EV chargers, machinery or data installation might be the visible upgrade.

But the board, switchgear and electrical infrastructure are what determine whether the building can safely support it.

If that part has not been assessed properly, projects can quickly run into problems.

Delays.
Extra costs.
Capacity issues.
Last-minute redesigns.
More disruption than expected.

For commercial and industrial sites, it is important to understand what the existing system can handle before adding more demand to it.

Is there enough capacity?

Is the distribution board suitable?

Will the system support future upgrades?

Can the work be carried out safely and with minimal disruption?

This is why the planning stage matters.

A well-designed distribution system gives your building the foundation it needs to operate safely, support growth and keep future projects moving.

At Prowired Electrical, we work with commercial and industrial clients to install and upgrade distribution systems that are practical, compliant and built around the needs of the site.

Still replacing old lamps one by one?

Older lighting is not just an energy issue. It can become a maintenance issue too.

For many commercial buildings, lighting only gets attention when something fails.

A lamp goes out.
A fitting starts flickering.
A corridor looks dim.
A workspace does not feel bright enough.
Another replacement is needed.

Over time, that reactive approach can create more maintenance, more disruption and more cost.

With older fluorescent fittings, replacement lamps can become harder to source, and poor lighting can affect visibility, safety, comfort and the overall appearance of the building.

That is why LED lighting upgrades are not just about reducing energy use.

They can also help reduce maintenance, improve lighting levels, create a brighter working environment and make the building easier to manage long term.

At Prowired Electrical, we support commercial and industrial clients with LED lighting upgrades planned around the building, the people using it and the long-term needs of the site.

Good commercial electrical work starts long before installation day.

Before cables are run, boards are changed, or equipment is connected, the planning stage matters.

That is where you understand how the building is actually used.

What does the business need now?
What might it need in six months?
Will the site be adding EV charging, machinery, data systems, lighting upgrades or renewable technology later?
Is the existing electrical infrastructure ready for that demand?
How can the work be completed safely, compliantly and with minimal disruption?

Because when this stage is rushed, problems usually appear later.

Delays.
Extra costs.
Downtime.
Access issues.
Last-minute changes.
Installations that do the job today, but make future upgrades harder.

For commercial and industrial sites, electrical work should not be planned in isolation.

It needs to fit the building, the business and the way the site operates day to day.

At Prowired Electrical, we work with commercial and industrial clients to plan and deliver electrical installations, upgrades and maintenance that are practical, compliant and built around the site.

We were recently approached by a commercial client who needed data cabling installed across their premises.

On the surface, it sounds straightforward.

Run the cables, connect the points, job done.

But good data installation needs proper planning.

Before any work starts, you need to understand how the building is used.

Where are people working?
Where will Wi-Fi access points be needed?
What systems need to connect?
Could the business grow or change layout in the future?

Because data cabling is not just for computers anymore.

It supports Wi-Fi, CCTV, access control, VoIP phones, payment systems, smart technology and day-to-day operations.

When it is planned badly, it can cause constant frustration.

Slow connections.
Dead spots.
Unreliable systems.
Messy patching.
Hard-to-trace faults.

Good data cabling should support how the business works now, but also how it may need to work in the future.

It is not just an IT issue.

It is business infrastructure.

Need data cabling installed or reviewed at your commercial premises?

When the sun is shining, it’s usually when businesses start thinking about solar.

And if you’ve got roof space sitting there on a commercial property, it makes sense to ask whether it could be working harder for you.

Solar panels can help reduce reliance on the grid and lower electricity costs, especially for businesses using power during the day.

But the next question is often:

What happens to the energy you don’t use straight away?

That’s where battery storage can become part of the conversation.

Instead of sending excess energy back to the grid, battery storage can allow businesses to store more of what they generate and use it later.

This can help with:

• Reducing grid reliance
• Making better use of solar generation
• Supporting evening or early morning demand
• Preparing for future EV charging
• Improving energy resilience
• Managing rising electricity costs

Solar panels are a strong starting point.

But solar panels combined with battery storage can give businesses more control over how and when they use the energy they generate.

Thinking about solar for your commercial property?

Get in touch with Prowired Electrical to discuss whether solar panels, battery storage or both could make sense for your site.

BS 7671:2018 Amendment 4 has now been published.

This is the latest update to the Wiring Regulations, and while it may not sound exciting, it is important if you own, manage or are responsible for a commercial building.

Buildings are using electricity very differently now.

More EV chargers.
More solar PV.
More battery storage.
More data systems.
More smart technology.
More equipment being added to older sites.

Amendment 4 includes updates around areas such as battery storage systems, Power over Ethernet, ICT earthing and bonding, and medical locations.

The main thing to take from this is simple:

Your electrical installation needs to be suitable for how your building is being used today.

Not how it was used years ago.

If your site has had upgrades, extra equipment, EV charging, solar, battery storage or changes in layout, it may be worth checking that everything is still safe, compliant and fit for purpose.

If your building still relies on fluorescent lighting, the issue is not just your electricity bill.

It is what happens when replacement lamps become harder to source.

We recently completed a lighting upgrade for a primary school that needed to replace outdated fluorescent fittings that were inefficient and no longer fit for purpose.

The aim was not just to save energy.

It was to create a brighter, safer and more comfortable learning environment, while also improving compliance and reducing future maintenance.

The works included:

• Ovia Inceptor A-LITE LED battens across classrooms and corridors
• Emergency lighting installation
• Adaptive mounting solutions for older fixtures
• Post-installation testing and verification
• Completion during the half-term break to avoid disruption

This is where LED upgrades become more than an energy-saving conversation.

They become a maintenance, safety and usability conversation.

Better lighting can improve visibility, reduce ongoing maintenance and make a building easier to manage long term.

If you are still replacing old fluorescent lamps one by one, it may be time to look at the bigger picture.

Want to find out whether an LED upgrade could make sense for your commercial premises?

Drop me a DM and we can talk through your building, your current lighting and the best options for your site.
