Cottage Door Transformation 🏡

Another lovely cottage project, this time over in Challock, where i replaced the old timber door and frame with a beautiful new hardwood door and frame.

The new door features decorative patterned/frosted glass, a quality security lock, roller-ball hinges and traditional black ironmongery to complete the look.

The combination of the natural hardwood cill, classic detailing and black ironmongery works brilliantly with the character of the cottage, giving the entrance a much more timeless, smart and welcoming appearance, while also providing a modern, secure and durable door.

A great example of how replacing one feature can make such a difference to the whole front of a property. 👌

☀️ A couple of rather hot days working in sunny Herne Bay!

I was asked to assemble two IKEA PAX wardrobes — not normally something I take on, but this one was for a family member, so I was happy to help out.

Following the interior designer’s plans, I then built a false wall around the back of the wardrobes to house the TV and tie everything in with the room.

To finish it all off, I ran matching coving around the top and matching skirting along the bottom, which really helps make the wardrobes look like they’re part of the room.

The electricians will be coming in next to install spotlights over the wardrobe area and LED lighting, which should really bring the whole thing to life. 💡

I did, unfortunately, forget my sander 🤦‍♂️😂 so I couldn’t get the filler fully sanded down, but everything is now built and ready for the decorator to come in and paint / wallpaper.

Can’t wait to see the finished result — it’s going to look great! 👌

Another one ticked off the list today! 🔨

Today’s job was installing this beautiful home office, featuring a bespoke desk with plenty of storage, drawer units and a display cabinet with glazed doors — all manufactured from oak laminated MFC for a clean, modern finish. 👌

We also upgraded the existing 35mm hollow-core door to a 44mm fire door, helping to improve the soundproofing of the office…perfect for those all-important business calls! 📞💼

Another great project completed, and I absolutely love how this one has come together. 😍

Over the last few years, many of you have known LR Carpentry & Joinery for fitted wardrobes, media walls, home offices and other bespoke joinery projects.

What a lot of people don’t realise is that I have a fully equipped joinery workshop, complete with professional spray finishing facilities, allowing me to manufacture high-quality furniture ready for installation.

Going forward, I’m looking to focus more on creating bespoke furniture that’s made to measure for your space, but designed as freestanding units wherever possible. This means your furniture is built specifically for your room, but without the need for lengthy on-site installation.

By manufacturing more in the workshop, I can spend more time doing what I love most..building quality bespoke furniture, and less time on site, while still offering the same attention to detail and craftsmanship that LR Carpentry & Joinery is known for.

Today’s job took me to a beautiful Grade II listed mill in Tonge.

As you’d expect with a listed property, the fire regulations were very strict, meaning a new fire alarm system had to be installed. Unfortunately, it left the landing looking a little untidy, so the owners asked me to come up with a storage solution. They were very open to ideas but wanted something that looked as though it had always belonged there – rustic, full of character, and in keeping with the age of the building.

I managed to source some reclaimed pine boards, which were stripped, sanded, and bonded together to achieve the sizes needed before being handcrafted into this bespoke built-in cupboard.

To finish it off, everything was treated with Liberon Dark Oak Wax, giving it a beautiful aged appearance and an incredible smell that really complements the reclaimed timber.

I’m really pleased with how this one turned out. A practical solution that hides away the modern services while respecting the character of a stunning historic building.
