Shaun will be at this year's 93rd Cruckton & District Ploughing & Hedging Society ploughing match tomorrow.

He'll be starting the day volunteering on the gate, before spending the afternoon catching up with people, making connections and enjoying the ploughing match. It's always nice to volunteer, give something back and be part of the local rural community.

The Government has now confirmed changes to Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) requirements, following the proposals announced in April. These changes will apply to all planning applications submitted from 6 August 2026.
New exemptions include:
✅ Development on sites of 0.2 hectares or less (excluding sites containing priority habitats).
✅ Temporary planning permissions of 5 years or less.
✅ Development where the primary purpose is biodiversity conservation or enhancement.
✅ Improvements to parks, playing fields and public gardens.
Exemption removed:
❌ The existing BNG exemption for custom and self-build developments will no longer apply.

SFI26 scheme information has now been published by Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra), with applications opening from 30th June 2026.

📅 Window 1 (30 June) - Small farms and those without an existing ELMs revenue agreement
📅 Window 2 (September) - Open to all farmers and land managers

The scheme includes actions to support soil health, water quality, nature recovery and farm resilience, with further details expected later this month.
