From an initial site visit in 2021 to a 40MW solar farm under construction in 2026. ☀️

A lot can happen in five years!

Our involvement in Rock Farm Solar began with identifying a suitable site and speaking with the landowner.

➡️ From there came commercial negotiations, planning permission, land agreements and securing the rights needed for the grid connection.

Fast forward to 2026, and the 140-acre project is coming to fruition, and is a great example of the work that goes on behind the scenes to bring renewable energy projects forward.

Meet The Team | Tom Ashton 👋🏼

Tom joined Howie Kent & Co at the start of 2020 and is mainly involved with specialist site-finding services for clients.

Alongside this he also provides planning consultancy for clients looking to develop a variety of different projects.
Before joining the team, Tom was land & commercial manager for a residential developer building open market and affordable homes across Shropshire and Herefordshire.

Tom has been a member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors since 2016, specialising in planning & development. Prior to this he had studied Rural Estate and Land Management at Harper Adams University and during this time he was also chairman and treasurer for his local Young Farmers Club.

Yesterday morning Dan & Tom headed to Harper Adams University for the RICS in the West Midlands: Shropshire Legal Update. Alongside many other RICS members & probationers, the audience heard from Mark Turner, Hannah Fynn & Joe Fletcher-Hunt of Aaron & Partners Solicitors🗒️

Mark spoke of the implications of the recently updated National Planning Policy Framework, and how he foresaw this affecting residential development opportunities in Shropshire. Hannah followed, highlighting the nuances that are often found in Mines & Minerals ownership and how to identify and manage these.

Joe closed with a presentation on Property Transactions, and how A.I is affecting and may affect the industry.

Continued Professional Development is something that the team at Howie Kent & Co are big believers in.
