Save the date!!📚✨

It’s that time of the year again and we’re celebrating our birthday with a special event this year- BOOKS AND B**R BIRTHDAY BASH!

In a celebration of not only the gardens 5th birthday but also local literature: expect local booksellers, local authors poets doing readings, a treasure hunt, b**r, cakes and refreshments. Fancy dress as your favourite book character is encouraged🧙

We will also be raising money for a garden mural to celebrate the special occasion. We hope you can make it! ⭐️

Pictures from our wonderful morning of bird ringing and appreciation on Saturday 🐦‍⬛

Thank you so much to the local BTO certified professionals for joining us again at the garden, sharing the importance of bird ringing and the constant conservation efforts.

Ringing birds is a very quick and harmless process that helps conservationists understand why bird populations are changing and what we can do to help them thrive. The rings attached are extremely lightweight and have a number that holds all the birds information!

It was also lovely to have sheffieldswiftnetwork, join us in the garden with Swift knowledge and rspbsheffield for more ways to help support local birds, and openhousesheffield for keeping us well fed and caffeinated!

Would you like to join our team? We're looking for volunteers to help our lovely after school art club! Running weekly in term time for Y1-4 pupils of Abbey Lane school, our art club is a great place to gain experience and work with fantastic children in our Woodseats based workshop.

VOLUNTEER SESSION. 9:30-12:30. Help build and maintain our community garden! These weekly volunteer sessions are a space to meet new people, help nature recovery and learn something new. Expect general gardening or some manual labour. No experience needed and all abilities welcome- there’s always a choice of what to do! Please drop us a message or email [email protected] to sign-up.

OPEN GARDEN AFTERNOON. 1:30-4. A time to drop-in and enjoy the garden, take a walk, read a book or let the kind loose in the mud kitchen!

CRAFTERNOON. 1-3. Enjoy the sounds of nature alongside whatever crafty project you are currently working on. Have a chat, a cup of tea and get some advice. Every 1st and 3rd Wednesday of the month, please drop us a message/email [email protected] to let us know you’re coming or drop-in on the day.

Some pictures from recent garden volunteer sessions. Weaving the willow dome, collecting seeds and pruning our pathways.

We run sessions every Tuesday and Thursday from 9:30-12:30 are always looking for new people to join us. No experience is necessary and we hope for you to learn new skills while at the garden! It’s a great place to meant local people and help local biodiversity thrive 🐝

MINDFUL MOVEMENTS. 2-3:30. A class of gentle movement followed by a tea/coffee, ran by @ every Thursday at the Garden. It’s free to attend and no booking required.

Saturday
BIRD RINGING. 10-12. Free to attend- bird ringing demonstration, from 10-12! There will also be stands and advice from Sheffield Swift Network and RSPB Sheffield Local Group and refreshments served by Open House (to help raise money for them opening a community cafe!) 🐦‍⬛

OPEN GARDEN SESSION. 12-4. Following the bird ringing the regular drop-in garden session will commence- come to graft, potter, or just have a cuppa. Everyone is welcome and there’s always something to do or a seat to be had. Stop by anytime to say hello, let the kids loose in the mud kitchen or get stuck in!

BIRD RINGING NEXT WEEK!🐦‍⬛🦜🦆

Following popular demand after the last bird ringing demo at the garden, we have decided to put on another next week. Thank you to the licensed professionals for wanting to come back- we are very excited!!

The bird ringing demo will be from 10-12, with further stands and information from Sheffield Swift Network and the RSPB Sheffield Local group and hot drinks and cake from OpenHouse.

The garden will be open from 12-4 following this for an open garden session, so why not bring a picnic along too!

We look forward to learning more about birds, their conservation and all the work that goes into recording all the different species 🪶
