New bathroom project underway… and I found this hiding underneath the shower tray. 👀

An isolation valve had been fitted for the shower, which would normally be a good thing.

The problem? It had been installed underneath the shower tray with absolutely no way of getting to it.

So when it eventually seized solid, the only way to access it was to completely remove the shower tray.

If you’re fitting an isolation valve, it needs to be somewhere that can actually be reached if there’s ever a problem. A lever valve is also a much better option as they’re easier to operate and far less likely to seize up.

It’s the stuff you don’t see in a finished bathroom that can cause the biggest headaches later on.

This one is now stripped back and ready to be put right properly. 👍

🚿 Hidden Water Damage Behind a Shower

Not every plumbing job starts with a planned bathroom renovation.

On this project, cracked tiles behind a folding shower seat had allowed water to slowly seep into the wall over time.

The shower area had only been installed around three years ago, but the gradual water ingress had already caused significant damage – even affecting the carpets in the two adjoining rooms.

Unfortunately, because the damage happened gradually, the homeowner's insurance didn't cover the repairs.

It's a good reminder that cracked grout or damaged tiles in a shower should never be ignored. Small cracks can allow water behind the tiles, leading to expensive repairs that aren't always obvious until it's too late.

If you've noticed cracked grout, loose tiles or signs of damp in your bathroom, it's worth getting them checked before a small problem becomes a much bigger one.

Small Bathroom. Big Difference. 🚿

Bathrooms like this can be surprisingly challenging. With very little working space available, even simple tasks can take longer than expected.

That said, the transformation on this one was dramatic.

From an ageing bathroom with a black suite and shower curtain to a modern, fully tiled shower room complete with feature wall, new flooring, vanity unit, lighting and shower enclosure.

Definitely worth the effort.
