🔧 WORK SPOTLIGHT | Pressure Leak Test on Underperforming A/C Unit ❄️
During a routine maintenance visit to a care home, our engineers identified an underperforming air conditioning unit serving a treatment room, with signs of a potential refrigerant leak.

A return visit was arranged to carry out a full pressure leak test and identify the cause.

🔍 What did we find?
On arrival, the system had completely lost its refrigerant charge.
Our engineers isolated the system and carried out a pressure test using Oxygen Free Nitrogen (OFN) at 35 bar.

Following a thorough inspection, the leak was traced to the indoor evaporator coil return bends, where significant corrosion had caused deterioration and refrigerant loss.

🛠️ The Solution
Due to the extent of corrosion, a coil repair would not provide a reliable long-term fix.

We recommended a complete system replacement, reusing suitable existing services where possible to minimise disruption and installation costs.

✅ Why This Matters
In a care home environment, maintaining reliable temperature control is particularly important, especially in treatment rooms where comfort and consistency are essential.

This job highlights the importance of routine preventative maintenance, thorough fault diagnosis and providing customers with practical, long-term solutions rather than temporary fixes.

❄️ Air Conditioning Installation Nearing Completion in Sheffield! ❄️
We're currently putting the finishing touches on another commercial air conditioning project at a hotel in Sheffield.

Our team was tasked with decommissioning and removing the existing air conditioning system and installing a brand-new, energy-efficient solution for the hotel's largest function room, which can accommodate up to 250 guests!

🔧 The project included:

✅ Safe decommissioning and removal of the existing system.

✅ Installation of a new 12.5kW Mitsubishi air conditioning system to provide reliable heating and cooling for the hotel's main function room.

✅ Installation of an additional 3.5kW Fujitsu wall-mounted system in one of the hotel's guest bedrooms, ensuring year-round comfort for guests.

With a busy function room hosting everything from weddings and celebrations to conferences and corporate events, having reliable climate control is essential to keeping guests comfortable.

🔧 Work Project Spotlight: Overcoming Site Challenges
Last week, our team was on site at a local church, working to find an effective solution to noise issues caused by the existing condensers.

Following an assessment of the installation, we fitted purpose-designed silencers to the top of the condensers to help reduce noise levels and minimise the impact on the church and surrounding area.

Due to the size, weight and location of the silencers, a crane lift was required to safely manoeuvre them into position. Careful planning and coordination were essential to ensure the lift and installation could be completed safely and efficiently.

Once in place, the silencers provide a practical solution to reducing noise from the condensers while allowing the existing equipment to continue operating effectively.

A great example of the work that can go on behind the scenes to overcome site-specific challenges and find the right solution for our customers.

🏗️ Work Project Spotlight –Air Handling Units
This week, our team has been on site in Sheffield installing two new Air Handling Units (AHUs) for a local hotel.

The first unit was installed to provide fresh air to the hotel’s ground-floor reception, treatment rooms and exercise studios, helping provide a comfortable environment for guests and staff.

The second AHU serves the swimming pool area and presented an interesting installation challenge.

With the plant room located internally and restricted access to the area, installing the unit as a complete assembly wasn’t possible. Instead, the AHU was manufactured in three separate sections, allowing each section to be lifted into the building, maneuvered into the plant room and then carefully assembled in position.

The photos give a great view of the process – from lifting and delivery through to sectional assembly and the completed unit in place.

A good example of how considering site access at the design and manufacturing stage can make even a challenging installation achievable.

❄️ Work Spotlight | Business Park A/C Install – Chesterfield
Another successful A/C upgrade completed by our engineers last week at a business park in Chesterfield. 👏

The project involved replacing the existing air conditioning serving the reception area and manager’s office with 2 x new Toshiba split systems.

🔧 Our works included:

• Decommissioning the existing A/C system
• Removing the existing pipework and interconnecting cables
• Installing new pipework and cabling for the replacement systems
• Installing and commissioning 2 x Toshiba split systems
• Fully testing both systems and setting them up to meet the client’s requirements
• Demonstrating the operation of the new equipment to site personnel

The result? A modern, reliable and efficient A/C solution providing comfortable heating and cooling for staff and visitors throughout the year.

Great work from our engineers and another installation successfully completed.

🚐 New additions to the Mattair fleet!
We’re pleased to welcome three brand-new vans to Mattair, ready for our engineers to take out on the road.

With our team travelling to sites every day to carry out air conditioning and refrigeration installations, servicing, maintenance and repairs, our vans are an important part of what we do.

Investing in our fleet means our engineers have reliable, well-equipped vehicles to support them on site and helps us continue delivering a professional and dependable service to our customers.

We’re also pleased that one of the new additions is fully electric, giving us the opportunity to introduce an electric vehicle into our day-to-day operations and take another step towards reducing the environmental impact of our fleet.

All three vans have now been sign-written and are ready to join the rest of the fleet.

It’s great to see them lined up outside the Mattair office and ready for their first jobs.

You’ll soon be seeing a few more new Mattair vans out on the road! 👋

PROJECT COMPLETE | Daikin R32 Heat Recovery VRV Installation
Another quality installation completed by our engineers – replacing an ageing R410A VRV system with a modern Daikin R32 Heat Recovery VRV solution for our customer’s office.

The installation included a new Daikin heat recovery system serving 12 indoor units, with a carefully selected combination of wall-mounted, floor-standing and cassette units to provide effective heating and cooling across the different office spaces.

The outdoor condensing units were professionally installed on anti-vibration feet, helping to minimise vibration transmission and ensure a neat, secure installation.

⚡ Improved energy efficiency was a key part of the upgrade.

Daikin’s heat recovery technology allows the system to provide simultaneous heating and cooling, recovering heat from areas requiring cooling and transferring it to areas that require heating. By making better use of energy already within the building, the system can reduce unnecessary energy consumption while maintaining comfortable conditions throughout the office.

The move from R410A to R32 also significantly reduces the environmental impact of the refrigerant. R32 has a GWP of 675 compared with 2,088 for R410A – approximately 68% lower.

The result is a modern HVAC installation delivering:

✅ Efficient heating and cooling
✅ Heat recovery for improved energy performance
✅ Flexible comfort across multiple office areas
✅ Lower-GWP R32 refrigerant
✅ A professionally installed solution designed for long-term performance
