Not plastering related, but since I don't have personal social media anymore, I'll bore you guys with this one! 😂
Yesterday I ran the Robin Hood Half Marathon.
At the beginning of the year, I decided I really wanted to push myself further with my health and fitness. I started counting calories, gave up alcohol and started going to the gym more regularly alongside my running routine. It was all going great, and I lost 10kg of body fat while still running 3 or 4 times a week.
16 weeks ago, I decided to see just how far I could push myself as a runner.
I was a comfortable 1:45 half marathon runner, so I decided to follow a very structured and disciplined training plan with the goal of running under 1:40 at Nottingham.
Trust me, it wasn't easy. Doing a 6-mile speed session at 6am, then spending a full day up and down two flights of stairs with tools and equipment, skimming a loft, definitely tested me. But I stuck to the plan religiously.
Slowly, I could feel myself getting fitter, the training was working, and my stats were improving. Before long, the goal had changed. I genuinely started believing that a sub-1:38 was possible.
Then yesterday, I lined up at Nottingham and decided to really test myself.
I stood just behind the 1:35 pacer at the start line. I had my doubts, but thought to myself, Just keep him in your sights for as long as possible. If you can't give it your absolute all today after all that hard training, when can you?
Well, I stuck to him like plaster to a carpet for the entire route and managed to pass him with about 400m to go.
The result? A massive PB of 1:34:36.
A level of running I genuinely never would have dreamed of all those years ago when I first started running.
I'm sharing this in the hope it might inspire someone else. Whether it's running, losing weight, getting fitter or anything else you've always wanted to achieve, set yourself a goal, put the work in and see where it takes you.
If I can do it, anyone can. 💪
