Well in 1975 I left school and went to work with Brian my Dad. By the end of the summer Mother had decided I needed to go and get an apprenticeship somewhere else so without further ado I was bundled off to SYPTE and learned how to mend buses.
My Dad carried on ROOFING and teamed up with Michael Turner. They worked on jobs about, sharing the work but trading independently. They did this for many years and took on two Young lads as apprentices.
I left East Bank Road garage in 1984 just before auntie Margaret brought out the Transport bill and destroyed public transport. I went working with my dad and kept going till I retired. A young man called Dean Martin came to work with me. He stayed for many years and became a really good skilled and conscientious Roofer himself.
My son James after doing training to be a dental technician left that industry, again due to political changes in the way Dentists were funded and came to work with me learning everything I know, then he started teaching me. He now runs the business doing excellent work and complying with all the latest Building regs.
My Dad died just as the new millennium got going and we learned today that Mr Turner yesterday went to heaven to help my dad fix the roofs up there.
RIP Mr T.
