We filled in a garage opening with a new doorway and window, all the stone hand cut and dressed by us, and Ed built the drystone wall and cut the curved coping stones.

This weeks task is to take down and rebuild a section of balustrade in a beautiful walled garden designed by Joseph Paxton. The stone had been moved by root growth, so a section was taken down and rebuilt, the base stones weigh over a quarter of a ton, so care had to be taken.

A bit of a dry stone wall repair today, rebuilt a 4 metre section, really enjoyed a bit of gritstone walling, we’ve been building with a lot of limestone recently, so was good to get on the grit!

Half way through rebuilding this wall, the original build didn’t use big enough stone, we’ve incorporated another 4 tons...
