Making the most of an existing home and its surroundings in South Yorkshire🏡

Set within the Green Belt and a Conservation Area, this project involved extending and remodelling a traditional rectory to create more space for modern family life.

While the front of the property was perfectly proportioned and symmetrical, the rear had limited windows and little connection to the garden.

Our proposals introduced an open-plan kitchen, dining and living space, designed to bring in natural light and make the most of the surrounding countryside views.

The attic was also reconfigured to create a master bedroom, complete with an en-suite and dressing room.

A considered transformation that improves how the home works for its owners while respecting the character of the original building.

A look at progress on site at one of our South Yorkshire residential projects, due for completion in January 2027.

The project involves a single-storey rear extension, designed to create open-plan living accommodation with bespoke architectural features that enhance the space.

The finished design will combine white render with cedar shingle cladding, aluminium glazing and carefully considered detailing.

With a focus on natural light and creating a stronger connection between the home and its outdoor spaces, the extension will provide a more open and functional living environment.

A former Sheffield steelworks is set to begin a completely new chapter.

We're excited to be working with Onboard Skatepark on plans to transform the former Thessco site at Royds Mill, Sheffield.

The 120,000 sq ft industrial building will be given an entirely new purpose, creating a major skate and BMX facility alongside spaces for education, wellbeing and community use.

With planning now secured and the RIBA 03 design now completed. We’re looking forward to seeing the project progress further.

A fantastic example of how Sheffield’s industrial buildings can be creatively adapted for the future.

From a potential remodel to an entirely new home.

This project initially began with the idea of extending and remodelling the existing property. But as we explored the building and what needed to be achieved, it became clear that working within the existing structure would mean making significant compromises.

Instead, we explored the potential for a replacement dwelling.

The result is a contemporary farmhouse-inspired design with generous family accommodation and a 200m² entertainment and leisure suite at basement level.

Sometimes the best outcome comes from being willing to rethink the original brief.

More space, improved energy performance and a design that responds to its setting.

For this Derbyshire home, we raised the existing roof to create full-height first-floor accommodation and replaced the conservatory with a two-storey rear extension, making the most of views across the garden and surrounding fields.

As the property sits within a Conservation Area, materials were carefully considered throughout the design, with coursed sandstone and Welsh blue slate used to complement the character of the surrounding area.

Thermal upgrades to the existing building fabric, alongside new windows and doors, also helped improve the overall performance of the home.

A considered transformation designed around both the property and its setting.

Can you apply Passivhaus principles to an older building? 🌿

Improving the energy efficiency of a traditional property requires a different approach to working with a modern building.

Breathability, ventilation, moisture and the existing materials all need to be considered when deciding how and where to insulate.

Sometimes, that means accepting limitations on the level of thermal performance that can be achieved in order to protect the existing building fabric.
