Project Update | Notton

Oliver headed over to site in Notton last week to see how this project is progressing...

This knockdown-and-rebuild project will deliver a contemporary four-bedroom bungalow, designed to meet our clients' vision for modern living.

It's been fantastic to see the project move from drawings and planning into construction. As with any bespoke home, the journey has involved plenty of collaboration, careful coordination and problem-solving to bring the design to life.

We're looking forward to sharing more updates as work continues over the coming months and watching this home come together.

Designing a contemporary home within the Peak District National Park requires a careful response to its surroundings.

For this replacement dwelling, our design was shaped by the site itself, from its challenging topography and established woodland to its position on the edge of the Pott Shrigley Conservation Area.

Careful consideration was given to the existing trees and landscape throughout the design, alongside opportunities for ecological enhancement and a highly sustainable approach to the new home.

The result is a contemporary design that sits sensitively within its wooded setting while responding to the special character of the Peak District.

The biggest design impacts aren’t always the most obvious.

Take this home in Sheffield as an example.

The brief wasn’t simply to create more space. It was to create a home that felt better to live in.

That meant looking beyond square metres and focusing on how the space would be experienced every day.

We reconfigured the layout, introduced a feature rooflight to bring more natural light into the heart of the home, and opened up the rear with large sliding doors to strengthen the connection to the garden.

Working alongside and , every decision was considered, from the flow between rooms to the relationship between the house and the landscape.

They’re the kind of design choices that often go unnoticed, but they’re the ones that make a home feel brighter, calmer and more enjoyable to live in.

A barn transformed into a new family home in Derbyshire.

Working with our clients, we secured planning permission to retrofit the existing barn. The proposals utilised the original openings and we added a contemporary extension overlooking the surrounding fields.

From concept through to planning and construction drawings, we helped convert the existing building into a home designed around family life.

A great project to have been involved with, and fantastic to see the finished result captured so well by Dug Wilders.

Put simply, Passivhaus is one of the world's leading standards for designing buildings that are comfortable, healthy and exceptionally energy efficient.

The benefits go far beyond lower energy bills:

✔️ Reduced energy consumption
✔️ Lower carbon emissions

As certified Passivhaus designers, we help clients create buildings that perform as well as they look.

While Passivhaus isn't the right solution for every project, it's not the only route to creating a high-performing, low-energy building. Depending on the project, standards such as EnerPHit and AECB CarbonLite can provide a more appropriate solution.

Every building is different, and our role is to help clients find the approach that's right for them.
