Why Reclaimed Brick ticks across every ESG box....

Using reclaimed bricks is more than just a construction decision - it signals intent. Whether for a school, housing development, or public realm scheme, this choice tells funders, planners, and communities that sustainability is being taken seriously at every level.

And as reporting requirements tighten across the built environment sector, visibly low-carbon materials like reclaimed brick will be among the easiest ways to demonstrate ESG commitment in real, verifiable terms.

A heritage roof isn't just laid - it's built with intention 🏠

Before a single tile goes down, the roof structure gets assessed. Every reclaimed tile is sorted and graded, with the best ones saved for the most visible elevations. Battens are set precisely, calculated around pitch, and tile size because a few millimetres out can mean water finding its way in.
Then comes the part that gives reclaimed roofs their character: blending tiles from different batches so the colour and texture look naturally weathered.

The details most people never notice - ridges, hips, valleys, verges - are exactly where a roof succeeds or fails.

Get all of that right, and you get a roof that doesn't just look authentic. It performs like it too.

In 1784, William Pitt the Younger introduced a tax on bricks and accidentally changed the shape of British architecture forever.

The logic was simple: bricks were taxed by the number used, not by weight or value. So builders did what builders do, they found a workaround. Make the bricks bigger, use fewer of them, pay less tax.

Oversized bricks became the norm across the late 18th and early 19th centuries. The tax was eventually repealed in 1850, but its legacy is still standing in period properties across the UK.

If you've ever tried to restore or extend an older building and struggled to find bricks that match, this is often why. The brickwork you're trying to replicate was built to a completely different size standard, shaped by a 240 year old tax.

We supply reclaimed imperial bricks in traditional sizes so you can match historic brickwork without compromise.

By cutting slips directly from original reclaimed bricks, a single salvaged brick covers far more surface area - maximising what's already been made, and keeping new production (and new carbon) out of the equation entirely.

Our new range features 10 exclusive blends, each meeting the Truly Reclaimed standard for provenance, reuse, and verified circularity. Warm reds, soft buffs, mixed blends, weathered finishes, all with the character that only decades of real use can create.

For architects, designers, and builders who want authentic materials with a transparent lifecycle.

Country Farmhouse using Reclaimed Bricks, Dorset

Our Reclaimed Bricks were used to build this fantastic countryside farmhouse residence tucked away in Dorset, transforming it into a charming family retreat home. The front porch is perfect for enjoying the cool breeze, and the lush greenery that surrounds the farmhouse. The bricks, sourced from an old dismantled building, add character and history to the structure, while also reducing the environmental impact of the construction process.
