Busy weekend on the old tannery project.

The new supporting pillars have now been built and the RSJs have been installed. The final step is to repair the brickwork above before we can safely remove the temporary supports.

Knocking up some limewash ready for our next job.

One of the great things about traditional limewash is that it doesn't have the short shelf life of modern paints. If it's stored correctly, it can be left for long periods and simply knocked up again when you need it. Very little goes to waste.

It's another example of how traditional building knowledge can help us build a more sustainable future by making the most of natural materials and reducing unnecessary waste.

Job completed this week.

Not the biggest job, and not a lime job, but every job is just as important to us. This garden wall was carefully ground out, cleaned, and repointed, leaving it looking smart and ready for many more years of service.

We've just wrapped up our Welsh cottage restoration project.

The old cement mortar was carefully removed, the stonework was cleaned using our DOFF steam cleaning system, and the walls were repointed using a stronger traditional lime mortar suitable for the exposed location. The result is a breathable, durable finish that protects the building while staying true to traditional building methods.

Before & after from a recent restoration project on the rear of a traditional Sheffield terrace.

We carefully removed the modern plastic masonry paint, allowing the brickwork to breathe once again. The failed cement mortar was then raked out and replaced with a traditional black ash mortar, helping the wall perform as it was originally designed.

Where bricks had become damaged beyond repair, we carefully replaced them with reclaimed imperial bricks to match the existing character of the property.

A great transformation that not only looks better but also helps protect the building for years to come.

Another exciting restoration project is underway.

We've started work on a former 1800s tannery that has suffered from a long-term, unresolved water leak. Unfortunately, the moisture has caused one of the original timber supports to rot beyond repair.

Our job is to carefully remove the damaged timber, install a new structural steel support, build new brick pillars, and carry out traditional brickwork repairs to preserve the character of this historic building.

Stay tuned to follow the restoration as we bring another piece of our heritage back to life.

Another step forward on this traditional Sheffield terrace restoration.

After carefully removing the old plastic masonry paint, we've uncovered that some of the original brickwork had lost its protective fired glaze. Without that glaze, the bricks are far more vulnerable to the weather and will continue to deteriorate.

We've carefully cut out the damaged bricks and replaced them with reclaimed imperial bricks, laid in a traditional black ash lime mortar to match the original construction and keep the wall breathable.

It's all about repairing these buildings with the materials and methods they were built with—not covering up the problem.
