This project shows how, when looking at a deep retrofit, it doesn't have to be all boring energy efficiency and insulation upgrades - here we remodelled the sitting room to provide magnificent views whilst improving the building form factor (geometric efficiency), created a ground floor entrance hall to replace the extensive external steps which in winter were a liability.

Looking forward to seeing this project completed - Beautiful Victorian property in the Birkendale conservation area, Client wanted more useable attic space, improved thermal performance/comfort. Planning restrictions negated the obvious rear dormer option, so we created more space using a mansard type roof, visible only on the side elevations. Phase 1 was the re-roof and internal remodelling (new family bathroom) and mechanical ventilation system with heat recovery, to allow the future phases of demolition of existing rear extension housing the existing bathroom and replacement with a single storey rear extension and new access to cellar accommodation and lightwells.

Its been over 4 years from the initial survey, but we're now waiting for the final Enerphit certification for this deep retrofit project in Ilkley. The remodelling mainly centred around removal of the dormer window to create a corner window enjoying the amazing views north of Ilkley Moor. The over cladding of a stone facade was something I was concerned about and technically challenging, but with clients enthusiastic to achieve full Enerphit performance, external insulation was the only realistic solution, but I'm sure peoples opinions will be split!
