Job complete on the grey squirrel trapping job in York!

An update on the grey squirrel trapping job SLR Pest Management has been conducting this week:

A follow up visit was carried out this morning to check the trapping boxes for activity and no evidence of activity was found, all traps were still set and baited and there was no evidence of any fresh squirrel movement located. The customer has heard no scratching noises in the loft space for two days now, whereas previously they were hearing them a lot in the morning and evening. I am confident that the job is complete and all squirrels have now been removed from the loft space. I have conducted TEMPORARY proofing of the ingress point to prevent any more squirrels gaining access into the loft space until the customers roofer can get out to the property to carry out permanent roofing repairs.

If you have any pest issues or queries, please contact SLR Pest Management.

Grey squirrel trapping in York!

A quick update on the Grey Squirrel trapping job SLR Pest Management is currently conducting. A follow up visit was carried out this morning to check the traps for activity and another youngster had been caught in one of the trapping boxes nearest to the ingress point. Other than the one squirrel being caught, no other signs of fresh activity was located and all other traps were still set and baited. The customer has heard no scratching noises since yesterday so hopefully all squirrels have now been removed from the loft space.

The trap that caught the squirrel has been cleared, re-baited and reset and trapping boxes have been left in place for further monitoring to confirm the issue has been dealt with. If no evidence of activity is found on the next visit, the trapping boxes can be removed and proofing of the ingress point can be carried out.

If you have any pest issues or queries, please contact SLR Pest Management.

Grey Squirrel trapping treatment started in York!

Squirrels have been entering the loft space via a gap underneath a displaced roof tile and causing disturbance due to the loud scratching and gnawing noises associated with the squirrel activity. Aside from the disturbance the squirrels are causing, they can also be extremely destructive to timbers and wiring due to their gnawing habit, as well as contaminating the loft space with their droppings and urine.

SLR Pest Management has set up a trapping programme to safely remove the squirrels from the loft space. Once the problem squirrels have been removed from the property, proofing of the ingress point can be carried out to prevent any further access.

If you have any pest issues or queries, please contact SLR Pest Management.

🐀 Why locating rodent ingress points is important in pest control! 🐭

When dealing with a rodent problem, removing the mice or rats currently in the property isn’t enough to resolve a pest issue long term. One of the most important parts of effective pest control is identifying where they are getting into the property in the first place. Rodents can squeeze through surprisingly small gaps and may enter properties through:

🟢Gaps around pipes and cables.
🟢Air bricks or vents.
🟢Gaps beneath doors.
🟢Cracks or gaps in walls, foundations or brickwork.
🟢Damaged drains or drainage connections.
🟢Gaps around roofing and building joins.

If rodent ingress points aren’t identified and proofed, new rodents can continue to enter even after the existing infestation has been treated. By locating and, where appropriate, sealing potential entry points alongside a suitable pest control programme, we can significantly reduce the likelihood of rodents returning in the future. I have included some pictures to show examples of rodent ingress points SLR Pest Management has discovered on recent jobs.
