🏗️ Another Job Progressing Nicely! 💪

We kicked this one off by breaking out and removing the existing garage floor, ready to make way for the new foundations.

✅ Old garage floor broken out and removed
✅ New footings marked out and excavated to the required depth
✅ Building Control inspection passed 👍
✅ Foundations concreted and ready for the bricklayers
✅ Returned once the brickwork was complete to prep and pour the new concrete garage floor

Another job moving along nicely and another solid foundation ready for the next stage! 👷‍♂️

🚧 Driveway Extension – More Off-Street Parking 🚧

Another driveway extension completed, giving the homeowner some much-needed extra off-street parking. 👌

It’s never as straightforward as simply adding onto what’s already there. When you’re piecing new block paving into an existing driveway that’s been down for 10+ years, there’s always going to have been some movement and settlement over time.

The challenge is getting the new levels, falls and blockwork to marry into the existing driveway as neatly as possible, while making sure the new section is built on a solid base for years to come.

A tidy extension that makes much better use of the available space and gives the homeowner that extra parking they needed. 🏡

250mm concrete pad, layered with mesh finally all out ready to be taken away in the morning! Some tough gear that it even snapped a pin in the quick hitch! Mesh really does strengthen concrete pours, time to start the footings first thing, but will we get concrete in on the afternoon? 🧐👀

Another driveway complete in Bishop Auckland 👌🏽

A clean, classic finish on this one using Burnt Orchard block paving through the centre, finished with a Charcoal border to frame the drive and give it a sharp contrast.

Simple design, tidy lines and a big improvement to the front of the property. 👏🏽

Following on from last week’s job for SKS Construction 👷‍♂️

Now the brickwork is up to DPC, we were back on site to get the substructure finished off:

✅ Internal drainage installed
✅ Airflow continued from the existing house through the new extension
✅ Stoned up & compacted
✅ Insulation installed
✅ Internal floor concreted & finished

That’s our part of this one complete and handed back over, ready for the next stage of the build. 👌

Always a pleasure working alongside the SKS team and keeping their projects moving.

Now onto the next one for SKS Construction after the Bank Holiday weekend! 💪🏽

Boldon Footings Poured ✅

Following on from the footings we dug over in Boldon, we got the green light from Building Control and were ready to get the concrete in. 👷‍♂️

A layer of reinforcement mesh was installed through the footing before we mass poured the concrete, getting everything levelled and tamped off to leave a solid, clean base.

Another stage ticked off and the job is now ready for the bricklayers to take it up to DPC. 🧱

Good preparation at this stage makes everything that follows that little bit easier.

Golden ground in Boldon 👌🏼

Foundations dug out for Dale thompson, for a large single-storey rear extension in Boldon.

Due to the location of the property, we knew there was a good chance we’d hit limestone once we started digging — and luckily, that’s exactly what we found.

With nearby trees, the foundations were originally designed to go down to 1.95m, but after exposing solid limestone at around 900mm, the required depth could be significantly reduced.

You couldn’t ask for much better ground conditions than that. 🙌🏼

A great result for the client — less excavation, less muck away, less concrete and ultimately a saving on both time and cost, while still providing a solid foundation for the new extension.

Now ready for the next stage. 👷🏼‍♂️🏗️

We were on hire to Resp LTD this weekend, helping with the excavation of a gas main to get it ready for northern gas to come out and connect an additional gas pipe on. Silly me went to work Friday with my home head on thinking it won’t take long 🫣 2 heavy slow days later it’s all exposed and ready! A major low point was the FaceTime to a mate at 2pm Saturday who works for the gas board, after than van was pretty much packed up to go home to check it was fine to find out we needed to chase the main pipe back a further 2m to give them enough room to connect onto 😂 it is what it is the jobs done time for a relaxing Sunday hopefully 🤞🏼 🤣

🏠 EXTENSION PACKAGE COMPLETE 🧱

Another extension package completed and handed back over to the client, ready for their joiners to get started on the roof.

When we initially started excavating, it quickly became apparent that the original foundation design wasn’t going to be suitable and the project needed to switch to a raft foundation.
